COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Kenneth Junior Deweese, 72, of Baxter, went home to be with his Savior on Oct. 6, 2010, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center after a short battle with cancer.
The Rutherford County native was born Aug. 10, 1938. He was a veteran with 29 years service in the Army National Guard serving as staff sergeant with the 278th in Cookeville. He was an employee of Adams USA for 48 years. He attended Washington Avenue Baptist Church, having membership at Colonial View Baptist Church as a charter member and having served as adult Sunday school teacher, trustee and deacon. He also served as discipleship training director of Stone Association and was an executive board member for 20 years. He was known for his devotion to his family, and he was his grandchildren’s favorite playmate. They looked forward to his coming to play with them and all the great adventures he took them on by using their imagination. He also looked forward to helping them with their homework. He loved nature, rising early in the morning to enjoy the sunrise, and he was most content on his lawn mower. He was an avid fan of country music and played the guitar and harmonica. He was known for his remarkable memory in knowing the words to hundreds of songs. He was a son of the late William Lonnie Deweese and Nancy Ann Bryson Deweese. On Nov. 17, 1961, he married Rose Mary Trobaugh Deweese, and they have two daughters, Jennifer Wells and her husband, Walter, of Bowling Green and Becky Carter and her husband, Jerry Jr., and their children, Samuel Isaac, Ella Rose and Seth Kenway Carter of Baxter.
Funeral is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Whitson Funeral Home, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Other survivors include four brothers, Walter and Clifford and his wife, Glenda, of Baxter, Haywood of Cookeville and Willard of Sparta; and three sisters, Betty Hickey and her husband, Ira, Vella Sullivan and her husband, Donald, and Linda Allison and her husband, Hubert, all of Baxter.
