Friday will mark the second Bowling Green Gallery Hop this year, when people can hop between 16 galleries – including the Gallery at 916 and Memphis Marsha’s. Each gallery will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and admission is free. Gallery Hop maps can be picked up at any participating gallery location or online. The Medical Center’s Health & Wellness Center at Greenwood Mall features the photography of Michael Bullis until July 1.

Melinda Rivers photographs, Hot Dogs Roadside Oddities, will open Friday with a reception during the Gallery Hop and continues through July 10 at Memphis Marsha’s. Rivers, of Morehead, will feature photographs taken while traveling. She works for Simba USA/CMC Golf Inc. as a designer.

The Houchens Gallery will feature the photography of documentary filmmaker Mitch Wilson and the glass art of William Van Tassel in an exhibit through June 15. Kim Soule’s latest paintings are on display in the Mezzanine Gallery through June 15.

A closing reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday will honor Nell Peperis and Dr. Robert Perez, the artists of an exhibit titled “Flight of Fancy” in the Presbyterian Church Gallery. The gallery is inside the 10th Avenue entrance.

The Artist Within Statewide exhibition will be on display at the VSA arts of Kentucky ArtsACCESS gallery through June 22. The exhibit showcases artwork from across the state created by adult artists with disabilities working at LifeSkills Industries in Bowling Green, Hugh Sandefur Industries in Henderson and East Seals West Kentucky in Paducah.

The Porter Caf/ Gallery in the Warren County Public Library will feature the photography of the Sunny 16 Camera Club. Members Vickie Elrod, Howard Margolis, Donn Miertl, Keith Bridgman, Tommy Hatcher, Janet Young and Leon Vincent will have works in the exhibit through Friday.

Campus

Exhibits at the Kentucky Building: “Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society Annual Show,” “Portrait of a Town: Cave City, Kentucky,” “A Star in Each Flag: Conflict in Kentucky,” “Recommended by Duncan Hines,” “Western 100,” “Roads, Rails and Rivers,” “Hascal Haile: Guitarmaker to the Stars” and “Taking the Mystery out of Prehistory.” For more information, call the Kentucky Building at 745-2592.

Clubs

The Factory at Cave City will feature the Moon Woods Band from 8 p.m. to midnight on the first Saturday of each month. The facility is on U.S. 31-W, just north of the Ky. 90 intersection across from Dollar General Store.

Saturday Night Karaoke with Wayne Hallet will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. each Saturday at Burgers on the Square in Franklin. The smoke-free facility is for the entire family, with the bar for adults only after 9 p.m. For more information, go to www.burgersonthesquare.com.

Ricky Beavers Karaoke will be at Shelly’s Place, 2545 Louisville Road, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. every Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays at Flealand in Bowling Green.

Miss Kitty’s, 3315 Louisville Road, has live bands beginning at 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; Wednesdays feature karaoke and Thursdays feature acoustic music, nightly specials and pool tables. Betty’s Bar has karaoke with T. Roy on Wednesday and karaoke each Friday and Saturday.

Music

Music Across Nolin will be Saturday in Wax Picnic Shelter near Wax Marina. Two bands, CrossRidge and Society on Fire, will begin playing at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free and food vendors will be on-site. A cornhole tournament will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the shelter. The entry fee is $30 a team, with $300 for first place, $150 for second and $75 for third. Registration starts at 5 p.m.

Curtis Martin’s Simply Country Band will perform traditional country music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays at the Butler County Adult Education facility. There will be a $5 charge and concessions will be available at the event.

Barren River Lake State Resort Park will have an open mic jam session the first Tuesday of each month. All musicians are invited to participate in the Tuesday Tunes Jam Sessions from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. inside the Louie B. Nunn Lodge and The Driftwood Restaurant. Dinner hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Dumplin’s Diner in Adairville has a karaoke contest each Saturday night. Entry fee is $5 and first prize gets $100. For more information, call (270) 539-5413.

Lucio, along with The Rose Band, performs at Main St. Music in Morgantown from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays.

Karaoke is at Southern Lanes every Friday and Saturday night from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. There is no cover charge.

Theater

Pine Knob Theatre will open for its 24th season Saturday with a benefit for the Grayson County Ministerial Association. See “ELVIS Nite” and “At The Hop” performed by The Countdowns. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children. A backyard cookout buffet will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for $10. Concessions also will be available. Tickets are available for the Fountain Square Players performance of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” directed by Heather Bitterling, at Western Kentucky University’s Van Meter Hall. Performances will be at 8 p.m. June 17-19 and at 3 p.m. June 20. Cost is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors or students and $10 for children 12 and under. Odds & Ends

Mammoth Cave National Park is offering free tours Saturday. In recognition of National Trails Day, admission for the tours will be waived. Visitors must pick up free tickets at the visitors center ticket office prior to tour times. For the Discovery tour, visitors may pick up tickets between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and then walk to the Historic Entrance to begin their self-guided tour. The guided Mammoth Passage tours, limited to 40 people, will depart from the visitors center at 3:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. For more information, call (270) 758-2180.

Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library will have a book signing and talk for Glasgow native and marketer Chris Houchens, the Daily News online director, for a talk and signing at 7 p.m. June 17. The Historic RailPark & Train Museum will have extended hours until 8 p.m. Thursday evenings June 17 through Aug. 12. Extended hours allow travelers a late afternoon and evening activity while visiting the area. It also allows area residents to enjoy an evening out during the summer months. Bring a picnic supper, take photos, watch the trains and experience the museum. Admission is $8 for 55-plus; $10 for ages 13-54; $5 for ages 5-12; and free for ages 4 and under. The museum and sHOw modular railroad exhibit is self-guided and the railcars are led by a tour guide. The last tour will begin at 7 p.m.

Bluegrass Draft Horse and Mule Classic will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Western Kentucky University’s L.D. Brown Agricultural Exposition Center, with a mule class, horse pull and other activities. Weigh-in will be from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information, call (888) 388-7203.

Annual Kyrock Day will be Sunday at the old Carmichael House near Nolin River Dam in Sweeden. The dinner is for former workers, residents and families who lived there. A local group has published a book and will be dedicated to Harry St. George Tucker Carmichael’s memory, accepted by his grandson, Chris Carmichael. Kyrock, Kentucky Rock Asphalt Co., was operated from 1919 to 1957 and employed more than 1,000 workers with nearly 2,000 residents living nearby. The mined ore was shipped on barges down the Nolin and Green rivers to a Bowling Green site, then all over world to pave roads, the Indianapolis 500 racetrack, New York’s Central Park and other places.

American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day will be celebrated from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Lost River Cave & Valley with a free event. Outdoor experts will host a variety of activities including family hikes, guided bike rides, a nature photography seminar and clinic, Geocaching 101, attracting backyard birds, and many more activities. A Nature Photography Seminar and Clinic will be from 11 a.m. to noon on the deck overlooking the Wetlands Area.

Auburn’s Antique Engine and Tractor Show will be Friday and Saturday at McCutchen-Coke Park. An antique tractor pull will be at 6 p.m. Friday; a parade will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday; the show will continue throughout the day with a super and farmstock pull at 1 p.m. with a noon weigh-in. There also will be a flea market, corn shelling, blacksmith, grist mill and lumber jack demonstration. Primitive camping will be available and food will be for sale. The Historic RailPark & Train Museum, 401 Kentucky St., will host RailPark Readings for children ages 5 to 8. The free event will be the third Tuesday of each month at a different location in the museum.

Kentucky State Parks offers 10 percent off lodging and camping rates for current and former members of the military. The discount is good for lodge rooms, cottages and campgrounds any time of the year, based on availability. To get the discount, guests will need to show proof of service, such as discharge papers, military ID or VFW member card, at check-in.
