How did the business get started? I had previous experience managing a similar restaurant and grocery since 2003. When the opportunity came that Taqueria Azteca was for sale, I took it, suddenly, in the beginning of 2010.

What is your background? I worked at Hometown Buffet from 2002-03. When I graduated from high school in 2003, I worked my way up in a similar grocery and restaurant and got to manage the business. In 2010, I opened Taqueria Azteca.

What are your biggest challenges as a business? The biggest challenge as a business is trying to make customers and people happy. That’s why they would want to come back. But sometimes that is difficult.

What’s your business philosophy? My business philosophy is to try and make the business the best at what it does, authentic Mexican dishes. Also, to make the customer come back.

What issues are affecting your industry? The economy today is not well, but also a major impact that is affecting me is the road construction going on Old Morgantown Road. There are a lot of road closures causing hardly any traffic on Old Morgantown Road.

What are the factors that make your business successful? We try to treat our customers well and let them know we care about them.

How do you handle competition? Competition is always good in my opinion. It just makes me work harder.

What is your advice to someone thinking about opening a business? Stay focused because success isn’t easy. But, if you truly want to be successful, get ready for a new life change.
