Behind the mic

When I was contacted to do a column for the Amplifier I must say I really didn’t know what or who I would write about so with that in mind I’ll just go with it and see what happens. My name is Tony Rose and I am a radio disc jockey.

I have been doing this now for about seven and a half years and I must say I never saw myself doing this. In that time I have met so many interesting people and heard so many interesting stories and now for the first time I get a chance to share them with you. Over the next several weeks I will be writing about my time at the legendary G107 FM and the relationships and stories from not only my time on the air with Live and Local but also the scene “behind” the scenes. I had no idea that so much of who I am and who I have become all started right there at those legendary studios. Live and Local was such a huge part of my life and at the time I feel that two hour show every Friday night helped bring a local music scene back to life and together for the first time since the Government Cheese days.

I will also share candid moments about the other DJ’s who I trained under and many that I feel are personal mentors to me. I’ll talk about Maxwell P. Murphy and the Max and Tim Show, Bryan Locke, Dan Jackson, Drew, and of course the original Bowling Green stunt man Beavis!

From there I’ll let you know about what it was like coming to my new home of the past 6+ years Commonwealth Broadcasting and how I felt when I found out that G107 was no more and Live and Local was cancelled. I’ll share stories about the rebirth of local music on the radio when I met Kid Cody and we started the Local Axcess on 103.7 the Point. I’ll share stories of the rise of my close friends Dry Land Fish and our local Woodstock…Livestock!

What was it like when Drew, my tag team partner in promoting the local music scene, left and for the first time I had to shoulder the load on my own and the support and family it all became.

I’ll share the memories of Kelly Greens on the square and stories that many of you will remember.

This article will always be from the heart and I will share not only my past but the present and future of Tony Rose as well. I will tell you stories about all the great community events that I have had the honor of being part of and I will spotlight and highlight some outstanding members of our Southern Kentucky community. I meet so many people in this wonderful job that I am blessed to have and I will always take the time to tell their story as well.

Thank you for allowing me into your home each and every morning on Sam 100.7. Now I will allow you into my home…hope you enjoy the stay!
