July 24, 2002, births at The Medical Center include a girl to Holly and Harold Watkins of Russellville. Navy Seaman Xavier R. Allen, son of Brenda R. Moore of Bowling Green and Clabe Moore of St. Louis, graduated from the Subsurface Cryptologic Maintenance Course at the Naval Technical Training Center Corry Station in Pensacola, Fla. Allen is a 2001 graduate of Gateway High School in St. Louis. He joined the Navy in July 2001.Andrew Stratton of Bowling Green recently graduated from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn., with a degree in marketing. Jonathan Canler and Matthew Stone, both of Warren County, Dustin Luttrell and Darren Stewart, both of Edmonson County, and Carl Van Zee of Logan County received scholarships from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The students attended an orientation session at the cabinet, where they were introduced to managers and workers and received information regarding scholarship benefits and responsibilities. It is a five-year maximum scholarship given to students who qualify and maintain required standards. The program reaches the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Kentucky State University and Western Kentucky University. The scholarship program gives students jobs in the summer to gain experience in various programs of highway engineering and is supported by the Engineer-In-Training Program. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Roger E. Tibbs, son of Charlotte J. and Roger D. Tibbs of Smiths Grove, completed two months of training exercises and humanitarian missions in the East African nation of Djibouti while assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.Marines from Tibbs unit participated in exercise Djibouti MEUEX 02, which included aviation, amphibious assault and live-fire and maneuver training. Volunteers from the unit conducted engineering, medical and dental projects and delivered school supplies donated by U.S. citizens from Morehead City, N.C.Tibbs is a 1985 graduate of Glasgow High School. He joined the Marine Corps in July 1985.Jonathan R. Woods, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Woods of Smiths Grove, was named to the deans list for the spring 2002 semester at the University of Louisville. To be named to the deans list, students must obtain a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4-point scale. Woods was a freshman at UofL in spring 2002. He is a graduate of Warren East High School. Navy Ensign Kyle D. Ashby, the son of Sandra F. Kinser of Russellville and David W. Ashby of Greensboro, N.C., received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. He is a 1996 graduate of Russellville High School. Navy Ensign Jeffery B. McCrady, the son of Kathy Turner of Bowling Green and James H. McCrady of Smiths Grove, was commissioned through the Limited Duty Officer Program. McCrady is serving with the Afloat Training Group, Ingleside, Texas. He is a 1985 graduate of Warren East High School and joined the Navy in April 1986.Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael L. Spencer, the son of Shirley A. and Charles E. Spencer of Bowling Green, reported for duty with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 24, Marine Air Group 24, Marine Corps Base, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Spencer is a 1994 graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School. He joined the Navy in June 1994.Hallie Grace Cowles, 15-month-old daughter of Brad and Clarissa Cowles, placed 2nd Runner-up in the Miss Tropical Breeze Pageant in Grayson County. She also won the optional category for Prettiest Eyes. She attends First Baptist Church of Bowling Green. Her grandparents are Marvin and Donna Cowles of Boiling Springs, Tenn., Donna Daniels of Paducah and Marvin and Phyllis Beckner of Bowling Green. She is the great-granddaughter of Hallie Marie Toddy Cowles of Boiling Springs. Lindsey Helm, Elizabeth Johnson, Chuck Beard and Harper Lee, all of Bowling Green, have been named to the winter/spring term deans list at Centre College, an honor reserved for students who maintain at least a 3.6 grade-point average. Helm, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Helm of Bowling Green, is a graduate of Bowling Green High School. Johnson, the daughter of Samuel and Melissa Johnson of Bowling Green, is a graduate of Greenwood High School. Beard, the son of Roy and Mary Anne Beard of Bowling Green, is a graduate of Bowling Green High School. Lee, the daughter of David and Laura Lee of Bowling Green, is a graduate of Bowling Green High School. Air Force Airman 1st Class Austin W. Vincent, son of Chester and Peggy Vincent of Russellville, has arrived for duty at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. Vincent is a crew chief assigned to the 390th Fighter Squadron. He has one year of military service. Vincent is a 2001 graduate of Logan County High School.
