A financial company that brought 550 jobs to Bowling Green last year announced today the city was a finalist for a planned expansion that would create 100 new positions. Contingent upon state approval of a job development funding application, Afni is planning a 5,000-square-foot expansion to its customer contact center on Scottsville Road, said Bruce Griffin, the companys chairman and chief executive officer. Griffin said he is confident this will be the site. Afni provides accounts receivable management and customer care services for many Fortune 500 companies, including handling calls for Verizon and other firms in the telecommunications, utility, banking and financial services industries. The company, which has 10 sites in the United States, provides customer care, billing, debt recovery, customer training and other services. Its 260-seat call center in the former All About Sports building at Greenwood Mall opened in June 2000. Salaries run from just about $8 an hour to about $75,000 annually for executives. The expansion would provide space for new training rooms and workstations, Griffin said. Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce Chairman Mike Murphy said the timing of the announcement during Industry Appreciation Week couldnt be better. Attracting companies like Afni and other customer-care facilities has helped the chamber reach its goal of diversifying a local economy.
