Friends of a dog killed in a fire at the Hobson Grove clubhouse Tuesday remember him as one of the guys. Bogie, a 6-month-old black Labrador retriever, was killed in the early morning fire. Chuck Keown, the golf pro at Hobson, was Bogies owner. He said Bogie was loved by everyone who came into contact with him. He already knew a lot of commands. The golf course was his home, he could run around when he wanted. He was our mascot, Keown said. He was probably the best dog Ive ever had in my life. Keown said Bogie was about to start duck hunting with him. He said the plan is to bury Bogie on the golf course because it was his home. He said he doesnt know if he will get another dog, but if he did it would be from the same bloodline as Bogie. Larry Nunn worked at the pro shop at Hobson Grove and saw Bogie every day. I was really attached to him. When I worked nights, every step I took he took with me. He was a good old dog, Nunn said. He was always happy to see you. When I played golf, hed ride in the golf cart with me. Nunn said he is going to miss him. Hershel Joiner bred Bogie and his seven sisters and brothers. I gave Bogie to them as a mascot. It was so sad. He turned 6 months old the day he died, Joiner said. Bogie was like a kid to everyone who worked there everyone just took care of him. His brother Rocky is the mascot at Hartland Golf Course. Joiner said he will breed his dogs again and give Keown another dog for the golf course. Joiner said the golf course will have a tournament to raise money for a tombstone for Bogie. The fire that killed Bogie was apparently started by a homeless man trying stay warm. Fire investigators believe there wasnt any intent to destroy the pro shop.
