Art

  • The Capitol Arts Alliance is featuring the All Kentucky Juried Exhibition in its Houchens and Mezzanine Galleries through Dec. 21. The exhibit includes 72 works of art in all media, from watercolor to steel sculpture, oil paintings to photography.
  • The Chamber of Commerce will be showing the artwork of Shelly Clark, Warren County art teacher, during December.

    The Health & Wellness Center at Greenwood Mall will exhibit The Medical Center¹s Children in Christmas holiday card artworks in the classroom through December.

  • Delaire Rowe¹s paintings and drawings will be exhibited at the Cancer Center at The Medical Center until Jan. 15.

Campus

  • Western Kentucky University Children¹s Theater Production of ³The Enchanted Attic² will be 4 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday in the Gordon Wilson Hall Lab Theatre. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children under 12. Call 745-5845 for more information.
  • The Star of Bethlehem presentation by Hardin Planetarium at Western Kentucky University began this week and continues through Sunday, weekdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. The presentation shows the audience the Bethlehem sky around the time Christ was born. Doors open 15 minutes before show time. No one will be admitted after the lecture begins. Admission is free. For more information, call 745-4044.
  • Exhibits at the Kentucky Building include: Big Red: The All-American Mascot Turns 25; from the Kentucky Room: Art from the Kentucky Museum¹s Collection; Felts Log House; Growing Up Victorian: A Kentucky Childhood; Roads, Rails and Rivers: Warren County Then and Now; and Hascal Haile: Guitar-maker to the Stars. Music

  • Tickets are on sale for Monday¹s performance by the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra. The 7:30 p.m. performance at Living Hope Baptist Church, sponsored by Brian Schuette and Associates, will feature the orchestra and guest artists, including vocalist Darla Day, in a holiday concert designed to appeal to the entire family. Regular ticket prices are $20 for adults and $7 for students and are available at the door, online at http://www.bgchamberorchestra.org, by phone 846-BGCO (2426), or in person at BGCO headquarters at 1046 Elm St.
  • Dumplin¹s Diner in Adairville has a karaoke contest each Saturday night. A $5 entry fee is charged and first prize is $100. For more information, call (270) 539-5413.

  • The Bowling Green-Warren County Historic Preservation Board presents ³Seeing Below the Surface: Using Ground Penetrating Radar to find Lost Graves² with Philip Mink from the Kentucky Archaeological Survey at Smiths Grove City Hall at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 15. Ground-penetrating radar has helped the survey search for lost graves all over the state. Mink will be using the device in the area earlier that day. This presentation is sponsored by the Kentucky Heritage Council, the University of Kentucky, Department of Anthropology and Col. and Cora Jane Spiller.   • Warren Central High School Madrigal Choir will have a madrigal dinner Friday and Saturday. The group, made up of the best vocalists from the Advanced Choir, will perform in period costume while dinner is served. The dinner will be at 7 p.m. each evening at Christ Episcopal Church. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10, $8 for students, children under 12 and seniors.
  • Tickets for the Bowling Green Woman¹s Club annual Christmas Home Tour from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday may be purchased from any woman¹s club member. The tickets are $10 each and also may be purchased at any of the tour sites the day of the event.   • Santa¹s Lookout Holiday Lights will be Thursdays through Sundays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. through Dec. 23. It is on Ky. 234, 12 miles east of Interstate 65. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Bring a new toy to donate to an underprivileged family and receive $3 off an adult ticket. Special group rates are available.   • United Way of Southern Kentucky¹s Festival of Trees is at the Sloan Convention Center. It features a forest of oversized, artificial Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and organizations. Free to all, the festival was visited by more than 23,000 people last year. The festival wraps up Dec. 27. Various activities are planned in conjunction with the festival. For more information, call John Darr at United Way at 843-3205.
  • Bowling Green Parks and Recreation has several events coming up, including Kids R. Cooks Holiday Treats classes Dec. 16 and Dec. 21. Registration is $5 for all classes or $2 for each class. The program will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at F.O. Moxley Community Center for third- through ninth-graders. Gingerbread house decorating lessons will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday or from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dec. 15 at the center. Lesson and basic supplies are $12. Lessons with a kit are $20.
