Donald Wellington Hawkins, 60, of Columbus, N.C., formerly of Bowling Green, died April 22, 2005, in Hendersonville, N.C., as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
The Louisville native was a 1962 graduate of Meade County High School and held bachelors and masters degrees from Western Kentucky University. He was also a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and taught mathematics at Meade County High School from 1966-1979. From 1980 to 2004, he taught for the Duval County School System in Jacksonville, Fla. He moved to Columbus, N.C., in 2004 and taught at Polk County High School. He also was a member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Jamison Owen Hawkins and Clara Belle Seals Hawkins and the husband of the late Paula Rucker Hawkins, who preceded him in death in 1991.
