The face of frustration was easy to spot at Warren East on Tuesday. First-year Raider coach Russell Malone had his head in his hands for much of the night as Franklin-Simpson handed East a 66-38 loss.

It was the Raiders fifth consecutive loss. What made it much worse was that another slow start kept the Raiders from being competitive once again.

Our biggest concern for our program is coming out with a purpose, mentally, Malone said. Every night win, lose or draw we have to play with the utmost pride.

Franklin-Simpson (9-2) dominated the game from the tip until the final horn, scoring the games first 13 points. The Wildcats defense created havoc in the East (1-11) backcourt early and often, forcing 11 first-quarter turnovers that turned into easy transition baskets on the other end.

Defensively we played pretty good, and we hang our hat on our defense, Franklin-Simpson coach David Clark said.

While Franklin-Simpsons guard play made life tough on the Raiders ability to bring the ball upcourt, it was the Wildcats frontcourt that got the job done offensively. Matt Morris led all scorers with 21 points and Charlie South added 19, which gave the two post players more points than the entire East lineup. Franklin-Simpson also won the rebounding battle 41 to 27.

I feel like we have a nice mix of inside/outside. Obviously were strong inside, but I think our guards played well tonight as far as taking care of the basket tonight as far as taking care of the basketball, Clark said.

After falling behind 16-2 in the first quarter, the Raiders played step for step with Franklin-Simpson. During the second and third quarters of play the Wildcats only outscored East 32-28.

We came out rather tentative, lacking some confidence in what we are supposed to do, Malone said. Its extremely frustrating.
