GLASGOW A Barren County Circuit Court jury found a Glasgow woman guilty of second-degree criminal abuse after a burn resembling the letter A was found on her 2-year-old daughters stomach. The jury deliberated less than an hour on Friday before deciding that Andrea Krummes Duncan, 25, of Indian Hills subdivision, Glasgow, was guilty of abusing her child the youngest of four children, Assistant Commonwealths Attorney Karen Davis said. She admitted to having burned the child (accidentally), Davis said. She said she was lighting a candle that was hard to light. Duncans toddler came out of the bathroom and when Duncan turned to zip the little girls clothing, she burned her with a hot Bic lighter, the top of which closely resembles a rounded letter A, Davis said. We felt like we had real strong medical evidence as well as common sense telling you that the mother was lying, Davis said. The childs father, Matthew Duncan, who is separated from Andrea Duncan, reported the incident to Glasgow police after the victim and her 3-old-sister returned from visitation with their mother Jan. 21. The children had been with their mother since Jan. 15.He is a caring parent and pushing for something to be done, Davis said. This is the second time the children have come home from visitation (with their mother) with burns. Medical records showed that both girls prior to the January incident had been burned by cigarettes on the tops of their hands and on their upper thighs around the diaper area, Davis said. Andrea Duncans other two children both boys live with her parents and have since birth, Davis said. Her 8-year-old son testified on her behalf. The jury recommended Andrea Duncan serve two years behind bars for her actions. Duncan had been out of jail on bond prior to the trial but was taken back into custody pending her final sentencing hearing at 2 p.m. Oct. 2 in Circuit Court Judge Benny Dickinsons courtroom. She currently is lodged in Barren County Corrections Center. Duncans attorney, public defender Randall Bentley, did not immediately return a reporters phone call Monday.
