Pardue
Kaylee R. Pardue of Russellville has joined the U.S. Army Reserve under the Delayed Training Program.
After completion of basic military training, most soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job specialty before being assigned to their first permanent duty station.
Pardue, a 2005 graduate of Russellville High School, will report to Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo., for active duty on July 14. She is the daughter of Deanna N. Pardue of Russellville and Leslie N. Pardue of Nashville.
Johnson
Romanza Johnson of Bowling Green recently received the 2005 O. Leonard Press Service Award at this year’s KET Volunteer Recognition Luncheon. The awarded is presented annually to the Friends Board member who demonstrates remarkable commitment to KET’s mission. Johnson is a retired home economist, serves on various community boards and has been on KET Friends Board since 1988, having served a stint as president.
Also, Johnson has been elected state chairman of the Kentucky Friends of 4-H Board for 2005-06 at the board’s meeting in Lexington on June 15.
The board consists of 15 people representing various areas of the state.
Johnson presented awards at the state 2005 4-H Fashion Revue at the University of Kentucky on June 15.
The theme for the statewide event was “Design Your Future.”
Robey
Cmdr. Roscoe Robey Jr. of Harristown Post 202 in Franklin was elected Department of Kentucky American Legion Sergeant at Arms for 2005-2006 on June 18.
Robey has been a veteran for 36 years. He served in the Vietnam era and has been a member of Harristown Post 202 for 25 years.
He is also a dedicated legionnaire.
Elmore
Timothy E. Elmore has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program.
After completion of basic military training, soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job specialty prior to being assigned to their first permanent duty station. The recruit qualifies for a $14,000 enlistment bonus.
Elmore, a 2005 graduate of Barren County High School in Glasgow, will report to Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo., for active duty July 26. He is the son of Timothy and Susan Elmore of Edmonton Road, Glasgow.
Barth
Pvt. 1st Class Brian E. Barth graduated from Marine Security Forces Training School at Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia as a Platoon Team Leader on July 13. He was sent to his permanent assignment with Marine Security Forces at Patuxent River (PAX) Naval Air Station near Lexington Park, Md., on July 15.
Brian completed boot camp Feb. 25, on Parris Island where he received The International Defense Ribbon for serving his country during time of war as well as an Expert Rifleman Badge. He then was sent to Camp Lejune Marine corps base in Jacksonville, N.C., for infantry training before earning his place at Quantico where he received The War on Terrorism ribbon and was one of only five Marines out of his company who earned an assignment to PAX.
He is a 2003 graduate of Edmonson County High School and is the son of Mary and Roger St. Onge of Brownsville and Gary Edward Barth of Palm Coast, Fla. He carries on a family tradition of men and women that have served America during every fight for freedom since the Revolutionary War. He is the family’s first Marine.
Loy
Christopher A. Loy has joined the United States Army under the delayed entry program, which gives men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to a year.
Loy, a 2005 graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School, has reported to Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C., for active duty.
He is the brother of Nicholas and Codey Loy of Franklin.
- Air Force Airman Carol A. Kemmis has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
She is the daughter of Robert Kemmis of Adairville.
The airman is a 2002 graduate of Logan County High School in Russellville.
- Army Pfc. Christopher L. McCloud has graduated from basic military training at Fort Knox under the Split Option Training Program.
The program allows high school students between their junior and senior year to attend and complete the Army National Guard or Reserve six-week basic training program during the summer of their junior year.
McCloud is the son of Russell McCloud of Alvaton and grandson of Wanda McCloud of Bowling Green.
He is a student at Greenwood High School.
- Navy Cmdr. Kathy T. Becker graduated from the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. The college is the oldest war college in the nation and oldest institution of its kind in the world devoted to advanced military studies.
Becker completed a multidisciplinary program designed for U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Air Force officers, and civilians from various federal agencies. Many of the graduates will take high-level assignments in command of ships or squadrons, or as members of strategic planning staffs.
Becker, a certified registered nurse with 18 years of military service, is assigned to the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md.
She is the sister of Jerry L. Tines and daughter of Carleen M. Tines, both of Morgantown, and the late W.H. Tines.
The commander graduated in 1981 from Butler County High School, Morgantown, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1987 from Western Kentucky University. In 1995, she earned a medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
- Army Reserve Pfc. Marc P. Simmons has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox.
He is the son of Brian Simmons of Wrens, Ga., and Donna Thompson of Glasgow.
Simmons is a 2004 graduate of Jefferson County High School in Louisville.
