The Capitol Arts and the Cancer Treatment Center of The Medical Center have partnered to feature a bimonthly exhibit of art in patient waiting areas. Tom Poole’s watercolors are on display through November.

Jon Thomas is exhibiting paintings in the Chamber of Commerce Community Room during October.

Paintings by Laurin Notheisen will be on display in the classroom of the Health and Wellness Center in Greenwood Mall during October and November.

The works of Michaele Ann Harper, Marsha Heidbrink and Susan Stuckert will be on display through Oct. 22 at Memphis Marsha’s Art Gallery and Classes, 524 E. 12th Ave. The exhibit will include watercolors, digital photographs, collages and photographs transferred to stone. Campus

The annual Homecoming Concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Van Meter Auditorium as a culmination of Western Kentucky University’s Homecoming weekend. The concert will feature the University Choir under the direction of Dr. Paul Hondorp, and the Symphonic Band under the direction of Dr. John Carmichael. During the concert, two people will be inducted into the WKU Music Department’s Wall of Fame – Sheila Harris Jackson, noted operatic soprano, and Franz Joseph Strahm, dean of Western’s School of Music from 1910 to 1935 and former student of Franz Liszt. The concert is free.

The WKU Woodwind Ensemble will have a recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. The recital is free.

The WKU Department of Music will present the John Martin Jazz Trio in concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. All proceeds will go toward the David Kelsey guitar scholarship.

Western Kentucky University’s Hardin Planetarium opened its new season. The program &#8221New Tour of the Solar System“ will take audiences on a visual tour of the solar system. The program features digital images of the planets taken by robot-probe spacecraft. It includes several recently released photographs and new special effects. Doors open 15 minutes before showtimes and no one is admitted after a show begins. Programs are at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 23, and at 7:30 p.m. today, Tuesday and Oct. 20, 25 and 27.

Belly Dancing will be offered at the Preston Center in two sessions. First session is from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Nov. 1 and the second session is Thursdays through Nov. 3 at the same time. The cost is $15 for students, $20 for faculty and staff and $25 for community. Pre-registration is required at the Preston Center. For more information, call 745-6531 or Alissa Arnold at 745-6543.

Jerry’s Lounge has karaoke each Tuesday and Thursday. There is no cover charge.

The Brewing Company, 423 Park Row, has live music from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday.

Good Tymes 2, 1607 U.S. 31-W By-Pass, has top 40 hits from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. every Wednesday through Saturday.

Spillway Bar and Grill, 2195 Old Louisville Road, has karaoke from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. every Thursday with Rick Dunn.

Music

Dumplin’s Diner in Adairville has a karaoke contest each Saturday night for the next six weeks. A $5 entry fee is charged and first prize is $100. For more information, call (270) 539-5413.

Odds, Ends

Rolling Thunder, Chapter 2 Kentucky, is hosting a Motorcycle and Classic Car Dice Run at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Beaver Creek Park in Glasgow. Registration will be at 115 Beaver Trail. The event itself will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a $10 fee per driver, which includes one dice game form, and $5 per passenger. Additional dice game forms cost $5 each. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and other prizes given away. Lunch plates will be provided by Bolton’s Landing at a cost of $5 each. In the event of rain, the dice run will be Oct. 22. A special night of fun and festivities will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenwood Skate Center. Live music by The Cru Band and Go Aberdeen will be featured, along with carnival games. Admission is $6 per person and all proceeds benefit hurricane victims.

October’s &#8221Kentucky Live“ program is from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 1680 Campbell Lane. This month’s presenter is Bill Jackson, owner of Jackson’s Orchard and Nursery Inc. Jackson will talk about his family-owned business, which has been in operation since the late 1970s. The event is free.

The Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra and Bowling Green Chamber Singers will present a concert entitled &#8221A Choral Cornucopia,“ sponsored by the Ervin G. Houchens Foundation at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Living Hope Baptist Church. The public is invited to join maestro Jeffrey Reed at 6:45 p.m. for a pre-concert Coffee Chat and a free cup of Starbucks coffee in the church’s fellowship hall, sponsored by Barnes & Noble Booksellers. The Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is sponsoring an appreciation dinner and dance for all Bowling Green Police Department staff, current and retired, at 6 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Searcy Way. Food will be provided by Elegant Occasions and music will be by Tim Livingston’s Music for All Occasions. The Bowling Green Shrine Club will host its annual Silly Skate at Greenwood Skate Center from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday. The cost is $6 for one session (6 p.m. to 9 p.m. or 9 p.m. to midnight) or $11 for the whole six hours. All proceeds benefit the club in its programs for children being treated at Shriner’s hospitals.

A community yard sale will begin at 6 a.m. Saturday at Flea World to benefit the American Red Cross, victims of the Gulf Coast hurricanes and The Salvation Army. To contribute items, drop them off at Greenwood Skate Center or Gregory Lee’s Restaurant. Skeleton’s Lair Haunted Woods has returned for its sixth season. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 12.
