Morgantown facility sold to HQMHQM of Morgantown, a subsidiary of Home Quality Management Inc., one of the nations leaders in long-term care services with over 73 healthcare facilities in nine states, has purchased Lakeview Healthcare Center facility in Morgantown. The facility has 169 beds. With this acquisition, HQM now has 14 locations in Kentucky with over 1,057 beds. The facility name will be Morgantown Care and Rehabilitation Center with a specialty clinic focus in high-functioning rehabilitation services, expanded physician services, and outcome-based restorative programs. Also, the facility will perform a feasibility study on the implementation of a comprehensive behavior management program. Company Chairman Elizabeth Fago said the move should be good for the community and the company anticipates adding jobs to improve services. CASK nets funds for weatherizationCommunity Action of Southern Kentucky received $32,500 in awards from the Kentucky Association for Community Action in a ceremony held in Lexington on Sept. 3.The money will be added to the agencys weatherization contract to expand its reach. The program is a federally funded energy conservation program that provides a variety of energy conservation measures, including furnace repair, duct sealing, air infiltration prevention and attic insulation installation. Community Action of Southern Kentucky weatherized 117 homes in the 2003 program year. These awards are designed to recognize excellence in the Kentucky Weatherization Program and to give agencies an incentive to strive to be the best, said Kip Bowmar, executive director of Kentucky Association for Community Action. These awards show that Kentuckys Community Action Agencies and Weatherization Programs are striving for excellence. National City named the top SBA lenderThe U.S. Small Business Administration named National City Bank the top SBA lender in Kentucky for the 2003 fiscal year. National City made 102 SBA loans totaling more than $6 million in the commonwealth. In the same year, National City ranked ninth largest nationwide in SBA lending. Because SBA guarantees these small business loans, banks are able to lend money with better rates and terms. The banks are rated by the number of loans made with the backing of SBA during the fiscal year, rather than by the total amount lent to small businesses. Chapman joins Hartland sales teamRichard Chapman of Bowling Green joined the sales team of Hartland Equipment and will work at the John Deere dealerships Bowling Green location. Chapman will cover northeast Warren County and Butler County. He previously worked for International Harvester, Case IH, New Holland and Kubota. Turfman council elects Whitmer as presidentTony Whitmer, currently employed as the director of golf course maintenance for Bowling Green Municipal Golf Courses (consisting of CrossWinds, Paul Walker and Hobson Grove Golf Course), was elected president of the Kentucky Turfgrass Council at its annual meeting in Lexington on Nov. 12.Whitmer was originally elected to serve on the board of directors in November 2001. He is a certified golf course superintendent through the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. Parks and Recreationreceives health awardThe Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department has received a National Healthy Community Award for cities with population between 15,000 and 50,000.This national award is presented through the National Recreation and Parks Association and the American Park and Recreation Society. The Healthy Community Award honors a city, which has positively impacted the fitness and wellness agenda on the local, state and national levels through collaborative initiatives and leadership. BGPR received the award based upon the varied and diversified fitness/wellness programming, classes and activities and our various collaborative efforts and strategic partnerships among public, private and non-profit agencies to promote the greater emphasis on the values of fitness and wellness services. The award was given at an awards ceremony and reception on Oct. 24 at the NRPA Annual Congress in St. Louis and was recognized at the city commission meeting Nov. 18.Youth detention center celebrates anniversaryAt a special staff meeting in October, the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justices Warren Regional Juvenile Detention Center celebrated two years of successful intervention with at-risk youth. Facility personnel have been honored by their peers with an assortment of awards. Robbie McKinney, WRJDCs education coordinator, was named Kentucky Educational Collaborative for State Agency Children (KECSAC) Administrator of the Year, and Rebecca Painter, WRJDCs science teacher, was named KECSAC Teacher of the Year. In addition, Mark Cook, youth worker supervisor, Bryan Barnes, youth worker, and Bruce Jennings, superintendent, were honored with awards at this years Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice Awards Luncheon. Wills promoted to district managerIntegra Bank recently announced the promotion of Donna Wills to district manager of the Bowling Green Metro Retail Market. Wills is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and is active in Junior Achievement and Leadership Bowling Green. Lawson named presssecretary for groupChris Gallaway, president of the Young Democrats of America, has appointed Jean-Marie Lawson, president of the Kentucky Young Democrats, as press secretary. Lawson of Bowling Green joins a team of officers from across the United States who are committed to encouraging young people to become active members of the Democratic Party. The 14,500-square-foot store will have 25-30 employees and will be open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The weekend hours of the pharmacy differ from regular store hours; its open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m. Walgreens carries 20,000 everyday items, including medications, fine fragrances and cosmetics, Hallmark greeting cards, soft drinks, dairy products, frozen foods and snacks.
