Darrell D. Bowlin, former GM Corvette Museum director, dies

Darrell Dean Bowlin, 68, of Bowling Green died at 10:10 a.m. July 24, 2003, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.The Kansas City, Kan., native was a retired employee of General Motors Corvette Assembly Plant, where he was superintendent of industrial engineering with 34 years of service. He was a member of the original founders of the National Corvette Museum and first executive director of the Corvette Museum, a lifetime member of the Corvette Museum and a Baptist. He was a son of the late Gradon Earl Bowlin and Cleo Dora Butterfield Bowlin. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Ann McGarvey.Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery in Kansas City. A service will also be held at Maple Hill Funeral Home in Kansas City. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at J.C. Kirby & Son.Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.Survivors include his wife, Jane Balhatchet Bowlin; a son, Darrell Bruce Bowlin of Overland Park, Kan.; a daughter, Deana Jean Bowlin of Stilwell, Kan.; a stepson, Brian Thomas Blake of Bowling Green; a stepdaughter, Jody Leah Blake of Nashville; four brothers, Earl Gradon Bowlin of Springfield, Mo., William Bill Bowlin of Youngsville, N.C., Carol Gene Bowlin of Kansas City and John Bowlin of Alexandria, Va.; a granddaughter, Rachel Fustini; a stepgrandson, Austin Blake; and several nieces and nephews.
