HORSE CAVE – Dr. Keene McMillan Hill Jr., 73, of Horse Cave died Jan. 8, 2006, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

The Cumberland County native began his family practice in Horse Cave in October 1963, where he practiced for 34 years. He was a loving and caring physician and instrumental in getting Caverna Memorial Hospital established in Horse Cave. He graduated from Cumberland County High School, attended David Lipscomb College in Nashville, where he was a member of the David Lipscomb basketball team, and served four years during the Korean War with the United States Air Force.

He completed his undergraduate pre-med education at Memphis State University and graduated from the University of Tennessee Medical School in 1962. He completed an internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Memphis. He was a member of the Horse Cave Masonic Lodge 231, former member of Rotary Club and Jaycees and served on the Caverna School Board. He served on the committee of Impaired Physicians for the Kentucky Licensure Board from 1976 until his death He was renowned in the community for his devotion and the empathetic care he provided in the support and treatment of individuals with alcoholism. He was a son of the late Dr. Keene M. Hill Sr. and Flora Trimble Hill.

Funeral is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Horse Cave United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with burial in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Winn Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Horse Cave United Methodist Church or the church or charity of choice.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ruby Hurt Hill; his children and their spouses, Randall and Rose Hill of Glasgow, Ned Hill of Nashville, Billy Mack and Lauren Hill of Midway, Beth and Jim Weeks of Austin, Texas, and Bryan and Kelli Hill of Versailles; and grandchildren, Janet Marie Hill, Lindsay and Jimmy Weeks, Madison and Julia Hill and Sophie Hill.

The family would like to express appreciation for the wonderful care and support given by the ICU nursing staff and Dr. Venakata Reddy, Dr. Jim Whiteside and Dr. Melissa Walton Shirley.
