Bowling Green teen killed in crash

A Bowling Green teenager was killed in a car crash early today.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Department said Justin Wilbert, 15, was killed after being partially thrown from a 1986 Honda Accord.

Dillon Oliver, 16, of Bowling Green was driving at 1:51 a.m. today on a private road off Longhunters Way when the car went off the road and overturned, according to the sheriff’s department.

Wilbert, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at The Medical Center. Oliver, who was wearing a seat belt, was treated and released from the hospital, according to the report. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

A third person pleaded guilty Monday in the 2004 shooting death of Veronica &#8220Bonnie” Rothwell of Barren County at Abner’s Gift Shop in Cave City.

David &#8220Mikeal” Alvey, 19, of Horse Cave entered the plea to charges of complicity to murder, first-degree robbery and tampering with physical evidence. It was recommended he receive a life sentence – he wouldn’t be eligible for parole for 20 years, according to Barren County Commonwealth’s Attorney Karen Davis.

Alvey’s final sentencing is set for Aug. 14.

Aaron Boles, 18, of Louisville and Nathan Wright, 18, of Cave City were juveniles when the crime occurred, but were tried as adults. Wright, the shooter, received life in prison without parole for 25 years, Davis said.

Boles was the driver and received a 15-year sentence.

&#8220We received extensive input from Bonnie’s family before we resolved all three individuals,” Davis said. The plea agreement &#8220provides a level of closure for her family.”

Accident – A commercial driver was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence after he overturned a tractor-trailer in Hart County.

William Edward Frith, 41, of Moody, Ala., was driving south at 12:57 a.m. on Interstate 65 at the 58 mile marker when the tractor-trailer traveled across the median before overturning across both south lanes, according to the Kentucky State Police.

Frith was flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where he was admitted for non-life threatening injuries, according to the state police.

Activity report – Bowling Green Police Department officers responded to 4,299 calls for service during June. Calls were up 188 compared to June 2005.

There were 70 people charged with driving under the influence, 142 drug-related arrests and 849 criminal charges, which compares to 52 DUIs, 94 drug-related arrests and 653 criminal charges in June 2005.

Automobile crashes were down in June, compared to the previous year. The department investigated 241 accidents with 50 people injured. In June 2005, officers handled 274 accidents with 71 people injured and one killed.

Arrest – Four Indiana residents were charged with drug offenses Tuesday at Bryce Motel in Smiths Grove.

Dennis P. Mackey, 45, of Mishowaka, Ind., Jessica L. Allbaugh, 21, and Obie L. Hines, 34, both of South Bend, Ind., and Sonja L. Johnson, 27, of Walkertown, Ind., were charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputies saw drugs and paraphernalia in plain view at the location and said they found three bags of cocaine in Johnson’s purse.

Hines was also charged with first-degree promoting contraband when a bag of suspected cocaine was found in his mouth at the Warren County Regional Jail.

All are in jail, each on a $5,000 cash bond.
