The Boerwinkle Jam has been a tradition since 2006 in honor of Tommy Lane Shirley.  Part of Metacalfe county’s close knit musical family, he was a member of such groups as Cool Blue (Ricky Sparks – drums, Greg Martin  – lead guitar, Jerry Martin – vocals, trumpet, Tommy Higgason – bass guitar, guitar, Wayne Sexton – guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, Mike Wilson – lead vocals, Tommy Lane Shirley – bass guitar, guitar) and The Unit Five (Tommy Lane Shirley – drums, Bill Bartley – lead guitar, Mike Wilson – lead vocals, Mike Perkins – bass guitar, and Greg Martin – guitar).  Shirley, nicknamed Boerwinkle in high school,  was also a supporter of Barnlot Theatre until his death in 2005.  Bandmate Greg Martin (Kentucky HeadHunters, Rufus Huff, The Mighty Jeremiahs) recalls “Tommy was around us during our formative years as aspiring musicians, he was a big part of our maturation as musicians and people.”

Some of the musicians participating include: the members of the Kentucky HeadHunters, Andy and the Rockers, Trevor Wilson and Jessie LaFever, 1243, Cool Blue, Nolido, Gary Hays, The Shuffle Kings and the Fender Benders
