Philip Gulley will speak at the Main Library at 1225 State Street on Thursday, October 15 at 6:00 p.m

Philip Gulley was discovered by Paul Harvey. Mr. Harvey read one of Gulley’s essays on the air. A publisher overheard the broadcast and signed Gulley to a multi-book contract, beginning with his first book, Front Porch Tales, published in 1997. Along with writing Front Porch Tales, Hometown Tales, and For Everything a Season, Philip Gulley is also the author of the Harmony series of novels

Fourteen books and nearly two million copies later, Philip Gulley still pastors a church in addition to appearing on the PBS show Across Indiana, where his work earned him an Emmy award for commentary. He recently won another Emmy award for his “Porch Talk with Phil Gulley.”  He also writes the popular monthly Home Again column.

“Philip Gulley has become the voice of small-town American life,” says library director Lisa Rice.  “He captures the nostalgia of time long ago where families gathered on the front porch, stories were exchanged and simple moments treasured.”

Gulley’s latest book, I Love You, Miss Huddleston: And Other Inappropriate Longings of My Indiana Childhood book is a memoir, recounting his coming-of-age years in Danville, Indiana.
