Western Kentucky senior Sydney Hackett shared first place in the individual standings after two rounds as the WKU women’s golf team competed in the first day of the Daniel Island Invitational on Monday at the Daniel Island Club in Daniel Island, South Carolina.

The Lady Toppers posted a combined 20-over par 309 in the first round but bounced back with a 7-over 295 in the second round to bring their total score to 27-over 603 for 13th place headed into the final round on Tuesday.

Hackett led WKU, shooting 2-under 70 in both rounds for a 4-under 140 score heading into the final round. She’s tied for first place along with Anna Howerton of High Point and is one stroke ahead of third place, No. 13 ranked Marie Madsen.

“Really proud of how Sydney played today,” WKU coach Adam Gary said in a news release. “She was patient and disciplined in the wind. The team got off to a slow start but look forward to moving up the leaderboard tomorrow.”

WKU’s Leah Edwards posted a 5-over 77 in the first round and a 4-over 76 in the second round for a total score of 9-over 153 for a tie for 50th place.

Kaylee Dwyer shot an 8-over 80 in the first round and a 3-over 75 in the second round to bring her total score to 11-over 155 for a tie for 57th place.

Grace Frei carded a 10-over 82 for the first round and then recovered with a 2-over 74 for the second round. Her 12-over 156 total score puts her in a tie for 63rd place.

Reagan Ramage posted a 9-over 81 for the first round and followed that up with a 6-over 78 for the second round. Her 15-over 159 put her in a tie for 75th place.

The Lady Toppers will close out the tournament with the third and final round on Tuesday.
