Lady Tops earn 5-2 win against UNC Asheville

Western Kentucky’s women’s tennis team battled to a 5-2 victory against UNC Asheville on Saturday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center in Richmond, Kentucky.
The Lady Toppers claimed five victories in singles – from Isabelle Einess, Andra Sirbu, Emily Schut, Virginia Madueño and Ariadna Fernandez – to win their second straight match. With the victory over the Bulldogs (1-3), WKU has now won five of its last six matches to improve to 5-4 this season.
“A good win on the road to come back after losing the doubles point,” WKU coach Greg Davis said in a news release. “It says a great deal about the team’s competitive spirit. Andra and Emily played very well today, and Isabelle beat a very talented No. 1 in singles.”
The match marked the first time this season WKU has won a match when losing the doubles point.
Sirbu and Schut improved to 4-4 together in doubles this season with the win Saturday. Schut’s doubles win was the 19th of her WKU career. The 19 doubles wins puts her in sole possession of 13th place on WKU’s career doubles wins list.
WKU improved to 33-21 in singles matches this season.
Einess claimed her fifth consecutive singles win and is now 5-3 this season, all from the No. 1 position.
Sirbu improved to 6-3 in singles play this season. She is 6-2 from the No. 2 position.
Schut is now 5-4 in singles play this season.
Madueño improved to 7-1 in singles play this season. She has won six consecutive matches. Madueño is now 3-0 at the No. 4 position.
Fernandez improved to 5-3 in singles play this season, including 4-2 at the No. 6 position.
The Lady Toppers will stay in Richmond to face Eastern Kentucky on Sunday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT and it will be streamed on ESPN+.
