A Bowling Green man arrested Thursday is accused by police of stealing more than $272,000 worth of cables from Magna.

Daniel McIvor, 43, was arrested by the Bowling Green Police Department on charges of theft by unlawful taking, first-degree criminal mischief and operating on a suspended/revoked license.

According to an arrest citation, city police were dispatched to Magna at the Kentucky Transpark on Feb. 2 and spoke with management at the automotive systems manufacturer who reported the theft of the cables.

Magna officials identified McIvor, who previously worked at the site as a contractor, as the person responsible for the thefts, records show.

Employees said they noticed cables had been cut and missing from several pieces of robotic equipment on an assembly line that was not being used, and Magna security found footage of McIvor appearing to enter the business in the early morning hours of Jan. 17 and pushing a cart with a large amount of cables to his car, the arrest citation said.

Magna estimated that losses totaled $272,919.06 and damage to factory equipment exceeded $100,000, according to McIvor’s arrest citation.

BGPD arrested McIvor at his residence, and he declined to provide a statement, records show.
