FIU takes down Lady Tops 80-54

Western Kentucky’s women’s basketball team dropped an 80-54 road decision to Florida International on Thursday night in Miami.

The loss was the sixth straight for the Lady Toppers, who slid to 5-16 overall and 1-9 in Conference USA.

FIU (12-8, 6-4 Conference USA) scored the first points of the game, but the Lady Tops’ Trinity Rowe connected on a 3-pointer at the 8:09 mark to give WKU a 3-2 lead. The Panthers scored a minute later to take a 5-3 lead. WKU tied the game three times in the quarter after that but was unable to take a lead.

FIU took a 24-17 lead into the second quarter. FIU outscored WKU 19-10 in the second quarter to take a 43-27 lead into halftime.

The Lady Toppers were outscored 37-27 in the second half.

Rowe led the team in scoring for the second time this season. The sophomore finished with 17 points. It was her seventh double digit game of the season and the 16th of her career.

Salma Khedr had nine points and three rebounds. Zsofia Telegdy had seven points, three rebounds and two assists.

The Lady Toppers will end the week at Missouri State on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT in Springfield, Missouri. The game will be live streamed on ESPN+.
