GLASGOW – If there wasn’t enough motivation for the Warren East girls’ basketball team heading into Wednesday’s District 15 matchup at Glasgow, head coach Jenny Neville dangled another incentive to her team before the game.

Looking for its first district win and winless in four games in 2026, Neville decided to raise the stakes by telling her team that if they played well they would get Thursday off.

The Lady Raiders earned that rest in a thriller, using a fourth-quarter rally to hold off Glasgow 58-48. Warren East (8-7 overall, 1-3 District 15) got a big night from Brelynn Wardlow, letting a double-digit lead slip away in the third before regaining control in the fourth to earn the win.

“It was important for us to come in here, play well and come out with a win,” Neville said. “The last time we felt like we let one get away. We had too many turnovers. We were very focused on coming in here, taking care of business and doing our job.”

Wardlow said the extra day off was definitely motivation to finish strong and earn the win.

“It’s exciting anytime you get a win,” Wardlow said. “We won the game and that was what I first thought of, we don’t have practice tomorrow. That for sure gave us a little motivation to win the game.”

Glasgow (3-14, 1-3) used a strong fourth quarter to win the first meeting 63-58 on Dec. 18 at Warren East. The Lady Raiders were able to flip the script in Wednesday’s rematch.

After the teams battled to a 15-15 first-quarter tie, Warren East was able to close the half with a 10-2 run to build a 27-19 advantage at halftime.

The margin grew to 37-26 after a driving scoop shot from Wardlow midway through the second before the Lady Scotties turned up the defense and made a run. Glasgow closed the third quarter with a 15-2 run, taking a 41-39 lead on a 3-pointer from Reece England.

Warren East was able to answer with defensive pressure of its own. The Lady Raiders forced nine turnovers in the fourth, regaining control with a 10-2 run that made the score 49-43. Glasgow got as close as three, but was unable to get any closer.

“I feel like we grew up a little bit tonight,” Neville said. “We’ve talked about withstanding runs and we’ve not been able to do that as a team. I told them they took a couple of steps forward tonight because they made a really good run and we stayed composed. We went back out there in the fourth quarter and did what we needed to do.”

Wardlow led Warren East with 17 points, seven in the fourth quarter, and added nine rebounds.

“Brelynn has been someone we can always lean on,” Neville said. “She is our leading scorer and our leading rebounder and she does want the ball. She doesn’t shy away from it. She wants it at the end of the ballgame.”

Jordan Brooks added 12 points, while Brooklyn Neville added 10 points.

Kayla Kirkpatrick led Glasgow with 16 points. England added 15 points and Jakylie Green added 10 points.

The Scotties overcame a slow start with a dominant second quarter, rolling to the district win over the Raiders.

“We did start a little sluggish, but we’ve been playing well,” Glasgow coach Brandon Stockton said. “We played last night (against South Warren), a good game that we lose by one point. We just came out a little sluggish today, but we had a good spark from the bench on the defensive end. Trace England gave us a big lift with some shots he’s not normally been making here lately. I think that kind of got us going and the energy picked up and we kind of took off from there.”

Warren East (1-16 overall, 0-4 District 14) got off to a hot start, taking a 20-13 lead late in the first when Glasgow started to take control. Stockton emptied the bench and the reserves responded cutting the deficit to 20-18 at the end of the quarter.

The run continued in the second with Glasgow (9-6, 4-0) outscoring the Raiders 17-0 to build a sizable 35-20 halftime advantage. Warren East got as close as nine points early in the third, but the Scotties were able to push the margin back to 61-41 by the end of the quarter and cruised from there.

Jerrick Martin led the Scotties with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

“When he wants to play, he can play,” Stockton said. “The problem is getting him to play that way all the time. He’s a very unselfish player. I stay on him and I want him to do a lot of things for us, maybe take some more shots sometimes, but he is very unselfish. I think his thing is winning by any means necessary.”

Jaylen Bradley added 19 points, while Trace England finished with 18 points for the Scotties.

Miyan Reynolds led Warren East with 19 points, while Cooper Doyle added 14 points.
