Tops’ Boone tabbed CUSA Freshman of the Week

Western Kentucky reshman guard Armelo Boone has been named Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Boone put together another impressive stretch this week in a 102-59 win over Campbellsville on Monday and an 82-81 loss to Tulsa on Friday. He averaged 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 0.5 blocks per game while shooting 14-of-28 (50.0%) from the floor and 6-of-7 (85.7%) from the free-throw line in two games off the bench.
The Lexington native opened the week with 18 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting, setting a career high in field goals made, and added what was then a career-best eight rebounds along with two steals in just 21 minutes of action.
The freshman followed that up with the first double-double of his career, posting 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in 31 minutes against Tulsa. Boone also contributed two steals and a block, going 5-of-15 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
So far this season, Boone is averaging 12.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals while shooting 42.6% from the field and 75.0% from the line in 11 games.
Boone and the Hilltoppers begin CUSA play on Dec. 29 at Jax State. Tipoff in Jacksonville, Alabama, is set for 6 p.m. CT. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
