As one chapter is set to close another one is about to begin for Greenwood’s Caroline Drexel, who signed to play college soccer at Murray State on Sunday at Indian Hills Country Club.

Drexel, who is set to graduate early from Greenwood – with her final days of high school this week – will enroll at Murray State next month. She said she is excited about the chance to play for Murray coach Matt Lodge.

“Coach Lodge kept it pretty simple for me,” Drexel said. “He waited a few months after my high school season was over to reach out and ask me to come on my visit. Once I went on my visit there, I knew it was exactly where I wanted to be.

“I know how the culture is on the team. All the girls are super close. The coaching staff is great and I knew that they would take care of me over there and make sure I had a home.”

She said the proximity to Bowling Green was an added bonus as well.

“It’s a good distance,” Drexel said. “I can come home whenever I want, but also it gives me the kind of space to be independent.”

Drexel just wrapped up a stellar prep career at earning first team all-state honors. She finished the season with 32 goals and 10 assists, helping lead Greenwood to its first region title since 2020. Drexel had a goal and an assist in the region final win over Bowling Green.

She finished her career with 79 goals, leading the Lady Gators in goals scored each of the last three seasons.

Drexel said she is excited about heading to Murray State next month.

“I kind of like how it is a little bit stressful, a little bit rushed because I guess that’s how I like things,” Drexel said. “Being able to get there as soon as I can and start training will be really nice. Even if I don’t get to play a whole lot in the spring, it’s a nice experience for me to see what it is like.”
