Highlighted by Sam Crenshaw’s outdoor school record, Western Kentucky’s track and field teams wrapped up action at the Jim Green Invitational on Saturday in Lexington.

Action started on Saturday with Biz Gold charting a personal best in the women’s discus throw. She became the first of eight Hilltoppers to do so on Saturday. Keeping things in the field ranks, Hunter Coslow’s personal best in the shot put earned him a top-five finish in the event.

In the men’s pole vault, Crenshaw managed a mark of 5.04 meters (16 feet, 6½ inches), which is a new WKU outdoor pole vault school record. This breaks the previous record of 16-00½, set in 1965. His mark earned him a third-place finish in the event.

“The team competed well, having to battle against some rainy and stormy weather,” WKU coach Lee Wood said in a news release. “I feel confident going into conference championships that we will be prepared to compete at the highest level so far this season.”

On the track, Ricardo Smith set a new best in the 110-meter hurdles preliminary round. Smith and Blake Foster managed to qualify for the final. Foster earned a fifth-place finish in the event.

Kameron Horton became the first Hilltopper to take a victory in the meet as he won the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.49 seconds. Zachariah Taylor also managed a top-five finish in the event. WKU’s Joey Raybourne set a PR in the 100 with a mark of 11.51.

In the women’s 5,000-meter race, WKU’s Kinley Kunkel set a new personal mark, finishing within the top five to claim fourth in the event.

In the mid-distance races, the Hilltoppers saw three new personal bests. Rowen Wilkinson managed one in the men’s 800 meters. On the women’s side, Kalina Urbaniak ran a new best while leading the way for WKU. Nayla Martin became the third Hilltopper to PR in the event.

When action had concluded on Saturday afternoon, 10 Hilltoppers in total managed to finish in the top five in their respective events with a pair of top-three marks.

WKU will take a week off from competition to prepare for the 2025 Conference USA Outdoor Championships. The meet will be hosted by Middle Tennessee and will run May 16-18.
