Greenwood sweeps Great Gator Invitational

Host Greenwood swept the team competition at Saturday’s Great Gator Invitational track and field meet.
Greenwood’s girls’ team scored 141 points to top the 14-team field, while the Gators won the 17-team boys’ meet with 109 points.
In the girls’ meet, South Warren finished second with 117 points and Warren East was third (82). Bowling Green (fourth, 58), Logan County (fifth, 55), Glasgow (sixth, 50), Franklin-Simpson (seventh, 37), Russellville (tied for eighth, 28), Barren County (11th, 18), Edmonson County (12th, 12) and Warren Central (tied for 13th, 8) also competed Saturday.
South Warren also claimed runner-up honors in the boys’ meet with 102 points, with Warren East third (86). Other area teams competing were Butler County (fourth, 58), Franklin-Simpson (fifth, 49), Edmonson County (seventh, 38), Warren Central (eighth, 35), Bowling Green (tied for ninth, 34), Logan County (11th, 32), Glasgow (12th, 27), Russellville (13th, 24) and Barren County (14th, 15).
Logan County’s Nia Scipio was named the Outstanding Girls’ Field Athlete after posting a meet-leading 23.5 points. Scipio broke the meet and facility record in winning the girls’ long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 7.75 inches and also had a first-place finish in the girls’ triple jump (36-00.00).
Greenwood’s Claire Ellington was named the Outstanding Girls’ Track Athlete after finishing as the meet’s second-leading scorer with 22 points. Ellington won the girls’ 1,600-meter run (5 minutes, 23.31 seconds), took second in the 3,200 and helped the Lady Gators earn runner-up finishes in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays.
Logan County’s Nicholas Blann was named Outstanding Boys’ Field Athlete after posting a meet-best 18 field points, including a meet and facility record winning distance (45-06) in the boys’ triple jump. He finished second in the long jump.
Franklin-Simpson’s Colin Anderson was named Outstanding Boys’ Track Athlete after scoring a meet-high 23.75 points, including individual wins in the 100 meters (11.26) and 200 meters (22.97). Anderson anchored the Wildcats’ first-place 400-meter relay team, joining Brody Perry, Sean Dunaway and Kaden Punzalen to post a winning time of 45.04.
Other individual winners for Greenwood’s girls were Allie Doran in the 800 (2:22.99) and Kayleigh Richards in both the shot put adapted wheelchair (11-09.5) and discus throw adapted wheelchair (29-04). The Lady Gators’ Lily Rodrigue, Sophia Gann, Alysa Jones and Madisynn Woods combined to win the 400 relay (51.40) and 800 relay (1:49.72).
South Warren’s girls got individual wins from Bailey James in the 400 (1:01.17), Katelyn Best in the 3,200 (11:59.95) and Karis Carter in the pole vault (9-00). The Spartans’ Jasmine Abacan, James, Hayley Best and Kindi Smith won the 1,600 relay (4:17.68), while South’s Campbell Gerling, James, Katelyn Best and Hayley Best teamed up to win the 3,200 relay (9:49.53).
Logan County’s Cleo Bragard won two events, taking first in both the 100 hurdles (16.55) and 300 hurdles (51.21).
Other area girls’ individual winners were Bowling Green’s Faith Evans in the 200 (26.05), Warren East’s Brelynn Wardlow in the high jump (5-06) and Russellville’s DeMyiah Allen in the shot put (32-01.50).
In the boys’ meet, Greenwood picked up individual wins from Isaiah Summers in the high jump (6-04), Timmy Sohn in the pole vault (13-00) and Griffin Howard in the shot put (48-02.75). The Gators’ Ethan Brockman, Keegan Dinning, Darrion Wells and Caleb Williams took first in the 800 relay (1:33.37).
South Warren got an individual win from Luke Roner in the 400 (50.66), who also helped the Spartans win two relays. Emmanuel Hernandez, Isaiah Bridges, Roner and Ethan Cardwell teamed up to win the 1,600 relay (3:34.10), while Roner, Calixto Alvarez, Mason Gardner and Hernandez took first in the 3,200 relay (8:19.70).
Butler County’s Ryder Harbaugh tallied a pair of first-place finishes, winning the 800 (2:02.06) and 1,600 (4:29.16), while teammate Case Hooten won the 3,200 (10:06.81).
Other area individual winners were Warren East’s Dane Parsley in the long jump (22-02.00) and Barren County’s Greyson Billingsley in the discus (142-02).
