Lady Raiders claim Kentucky 2A softball crown

Warren East captured its first-ever Kentucky 2A State Softball Championships title on Saturday in Owensboro.
The Lady Raiders topped Rowan County 2-1 to win the championship at Jack C. Fisher Park.
Lydia Jones went -for-3 with an RBI, Jordan Brooks also drove in a run and Addison Lee tallied a double in the win.
Tristen Lindsey earned the win in relief, allowing one run off three hits and no walks over three innings. Warren East’s Autumn Brooks started in the circle and fired four scoreless innings, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out three batters.
Brooks made Kentucky 2A history by throwing the first no-hitter in tournament history in Saturday’s 5-0 win against Harrison County in the semifinals. The sophomore pitched all seven innings for the complete-game win, allowing no hits and just one walk while striking out eight.
Autumn Brooks went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Jordan Brooks was 2-for-4. Kenzie Upton was 2-for-4 with a double, Lee drove in two runs and Lindsey also tallied an RBI.
Autumn Brooks was named the All-Tournament Team Most Valuable Player. Warren East’s Kennedy Lawson, Kynleigh Barrick, Lindsey and Jones were also named to the all-tournament team.
Warren East (17-4) is back in action Monday at home against Bowling Green.
South Warren 10, Great Crossing 0
No. 1-ranked South Warren claimed two mercy-rule wins Saturday, beating Scott County 14-1 in five innings before topping host Great Crossing 10-0 in five innings.
Parker Willoughby led the Spartans in the win against Scott County, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Layla Ogden and Hayden Holloway each homered and drove in two runs, and Kaylee Wilson, Kinleigh Russell, Jenna Lindsey and McLaine Hudson each notched an RBI.
Courtney Norwood went all five innings to earn the win, allowing one run off two hits with no walks. She struck out six.
Russell paced South against Great Crossing with a 2-for-4 day with a triple, a double and three RBIs. Hudson tallied a solo home run, Ogden went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, Willoughby was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Norwood added an RBI and Lindsey had a double in the win.
Ogden fired five shutout innings to earn the complete-game win, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out six.
South Warren (19-2) is at District 14 foe Bowling Green on Tuesday.
Daviess County 16, Franklin-Simpson 0
Franklin-Simpson dropped a trio of games Saturday at Greenwood, falling 12-2 in five innings to Liberty Creek (Tennessee), then losing 8-6 to Christian County before losing 16-0 in three innings to Daviess County.
Lilly Ferguson led the Lady Wildcats against Christian County, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and three RBIs. Kloie Smith was 2-for-3, Allie Utley went 2-for-4 with a triple, and Ava Holland and Kyleigh Scott each drove in a run.
Kaitlyn Woodall notched Franklin’s lone RBI against Liberty Creek.
Franklin-Simpson (9-12) went hitless against Daviess County. The Lady Wildcats are back in action Monday at home against Westmoreland (Tennessee).
Baseball
Greenwood 7, Webster County 2
Easton Talley went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples and one RBI as host Greenwood earned a 7-2 win against Webster County on Saturday.
Zachary Davis was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and four stolen bases, Jake Flickinger drove in three runs and Chaze Huff added an RBI for the Gators.
Ryan Loiars started on the mound and went five innings to earn the win, allowing one run off three hits and four walks while striking out five.
Greenwood (18-4) is at District 14 rival South Warren on Monday.
Christian County 8, Bowling Green 7
Homestanding Bowling Green fell 8-7 in eight innings to Christian County on Saturday.
Drew Isenberg went 5-for-5 at the plate to lead the host Purples. Evan Schallert was 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, Harrison Yates went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Luke Idlett and Landon Gilbert tallied two RBIs apiece.
Bowling Green (12-8) hosts District 14 rival Warren Central on Monday.
