BOWLING GREEN — Freeman Jones Simpson went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 22, 2025.

He was born to the late Jenny Opal Jones and James Marshall Simpson. Freeman is also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Gwendolyn Huff Simpson; his sons, Terry Simpson and Roger Huff; and his brother, Darcy Simpson.

Freeman served in the United States Navy and retired as a Towboat Engineer from Crounse Corp. after 30 years of service. He was also a caretaker for Lewis Chapel Cemetery for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, mowing and farming.

Freeman loved and cared for his family deeply. He was a simple and faithful man who enjoyed life. Freeman was a member of Lewis Chapel Church.

Freeman is survived by his daughters, Donna Plunkett (Tim) of Dyer, TN and LaDonna Elms (Dan) of Hadley, KY; his sister, Freida Ellis (the late Van); his grandchildren, James (Bobbie), Ryan (Shannon), Bryant (Ashley), Brittnee (Justin), Haley, Andrew, Christopher, and Michael; and many great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel with visitation from 2 until 7 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday with Masonic service at 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will take place in Lewis Chapel Cemetery in Hadley.
