It was a busy day at Bowling Green High School, with six students signing to extend their respective athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Adelyn Drane is headed to Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee, to play soccer. Teammates Anthony Pointer and CJ Sweeney will continue to play football, with Pointer headed to Union College and Sweeney to Kentucky Wesleyan. Two student athletes signed with Lindsey Wilson College, with Trevor Huff headed to LWC to bowl and Henderson Wiggins headed for soccer, while Mogie Bradley signed to cheer at Western Kentucky University.

Drane was a multi-sport athlete who shined on the pitch, helping the Lady Purples win a fourth straight region tournament. She finished second with 19 goals and added nine assists.

She said she is excited about devoting time exclusively in soccer after being part of both the cross country and cheer team in high school.

“I played high school sports all my life, so I was very busy,” Drane said. “It will be a good journey, but it will be weird transitioning to one sport. I’m really excited for that.”

Drane added it was fun to be able to sign the same day as her fellow cheerleader Bradley signed with WKU.

“I am so proud of Mogie,” Drane said. “She didn’t know if she was going to get to cheer until recently, but I always knew – since she was little – that she would definitely cheer in college. I’m so proud of her.”

Sweeney battled through a back injury to play a key role in the Purples’ run to a second straight Class 5A state title. He finished his senior season with 29 catches for 513 yards and four touchdowns and added a kickoff return for a touchdown in a state semifinal win against South Warren.

“The coaching staff made everything feel like home,” Sweeney said. “Going into a new city, they showed me around. They showed me a little bit of campus. I met a lot of the players. They made me feel comfortable there.”

Pointer had 33 total tackles, including a sack, as part of a BG defense that was a big factor in the repeat title.

Sweeney and Pointer’s signing on Wednesday made it eight football players who have signed to play college football since January. Pointer said he is excited to be part of that group.

“It feels really good to start a new career, a new chapter,” Pointer said. “We worked hard all year and it feels good to have the opportunity to make it to the next level.”

Huff and Wiggins will remain classmates at Lindsey Wilson.

Wiggins was dominant in goal for the region champion Purples, allowing five total goals in 20 games. He recorded 43 saves and finished with 10 shutouts.

Huff, who also ran cross country and track at Bowling Green, said he knew bowling collegiately was possible after competing in the Junior Gold Championships in Detroit last summer.

“I finished about 750th out of probably 2,000 people,” Huff said. “It was a struggle to get there, but genuinely it really helped me out a lot. It helped me realize where my competition was and who I needed to beat to get to the next level.”
