BGISD Superintendent Gary Fields announced the appointment Tuesday as Ford was introduced to students and staff at the morning assembly.

“I can’t wait to be a part of the community and work alongside teachers and staff, to connect with families and help our students succeed every single day. It’s truly an honor and I can’t wait to get started,” Ford said in a statement.

She’s served as an instructional coach for the district since 2020, first at Potter Gray Elementary and then at the District Office, BGISD stated. She’s assisted in implementing curriculum, instruction and school district assessments; responsibilities have included Response to Intervention (RTI) programming, math and literacy support, coaching teachers and monitoring the alignment of curriculum with common assessments, according to BGISD. Before her move to Bowling Green, she worked as a digital learning coach for two years and an elementary school teacher for 15 years, BGISD stated.

“She brings a wealth of experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching and developing positive learning environments for all students,” Fields said in a statement. “We are confident that Ms. Ford’s proven leadership and dedication to student success will be a tremendous asset to Parker-Bennett-Curry Elementary and our entire district.”

Ford’s top priorities as principal will be to help support teachers and staff, to connect with families and to support students, she told the Daily News.

“This is my 22nd year in education, and the past four years I’ve been working across the district in a different capacity, and so with this new position, I will focus all my energy and excitement with the students and staff and families at (Parker-Bennett-Curry), and I’ll be able to see children’s growth and to have those relationships on a much more personal level,” she told the Daily News.

The decision follows former principal Delvagus Jackson’s appointment as the district’s director of alternative programs and safety; Kelli Brooks, who had previously retired from BGISD following a lengthy career as an educator and a principal, became the school’s interim principal role in the spring semester.
