Western Kentucky’s women’s golf team is headed to the NCAA Lexington Regional at Keene Trace Golf Club (Champions) from May 5-7.
The announcement was made during the NCAA Women’s Golf selection show on Wednesday. The Lady Tops won the Conference USA Championship for the first time in program history and will be the No. 10 seed in Lexington.
The three-day, 54-hole regional features 12 teams (in order of seed): Florida State, USC, TCU, Vanderbilt, Kansas State, Georgia Southern, Pepperdine, Louisville, Miami, Western Kentucky, Morehead State and Fairleigh Dickinson. Six individuals will also compete. The top five teams, and top individual on a non-advancing team, from each of the six regionals will advance to the NCAA Golf Championships in Carlsbad, California, from May 16-21.
WKU will be making its first appearance at NCAA Regionals in the 48-year history of the program. Senior Catie Craig has played as an individual at NCAA Regionals each of the last two seasons.
The Lady Tops have won four tournaments this season for the first time in program history. WKU won the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational by six shots over No. 26 Florida (now No. 21), the UNF Collegiate by nine strokes, the Tennessee Spring Challenge over No. 18 Vanderbilt by 11 shots (now No. 22) and No. 31 Tennessee by 22 strokes (now No. 31) and then the CUSA Championships by seven shots.
Three WKU golfers have won a tournament this year, highlighted by Sydney Hackett winning the individual CUSA crown with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Craig won the Cardinal Cup in the fall and freshman Kaylee Dwyer won the Tennessee Spring Challenge.
