Bunton wins twice to lead BG at Dragon Invitational

Bowling Green sophomore Drian Bunton claimed a pair of individual wins to lead the Purples at Saturday’s Dragon Invitational track and field meet hosted by Warren Central.

Bunton won the boys’ 100-meter dash in 11.06 seconds, and took first in the boys’ 200 in 23.04.

Russellville senior Octavius McKeage was also a two-time individual winner, taking first in the boys’ long jump with a winning leap of 20 feet, 5 inches, and adding a first-place finish in the triple jump (42-09).

Greenwood’s boys’ won the team competition with 112 points, with Warren East (86) taking second and Butler County (80) finishing third. Bowling Green (fifth, 56), Warren Central (sixth, 54), Allen County-Scottsville (seventh, 46), Edmonson County (eighth, 38), Russellville (ninth, 36), Logan County (tied for 11th, 25), South Warren (tied for 11th, 25) and Franklin-Simpson (14th, 15) also competed Saturday.

In the girls’ competition, Logan County junior Nia Scipio was the only area two-time individual winner. Scipio took first in the long jump (15-09.5) and triple jump (34-07).

Greenwood’s girls’ team took first-place honors with 117 points. Bowling Green (86) was third and South Warren (63) finished fourth. Warren East (sixth, 56), Logan County (seventh, 45), Russellville (eighth, 30), Warren Central (ninth, 29), Franklin-Simpson (10th, 23), Edmonson County (11th, 19), Butler County (12th, 18) and Allen County-Scottsville (13th, 11) also competed in the meet.

Other area boys’ individual winners included Warren East’s Jacob Dockery in the 400 (51.97), Butler County’s Ryder Harbaugh in the 800 (2:02.25), Butler County’s Case Hooten in the 1,600 (4:40.50), Allen County-Scottsville’s Greyson Walker in the 110 hurdles (16.80), Greenwood’s Romello Meade in the 300 hurdles (41.77), Edmonson County’s Landon Franich in the high jump (5-10), South Warren’s Zackary Walters in the pole vault (11-06), Greenwood’s Griffin Howard in the discus (110-04) and Warren East’s Damontre Barnett in the shot put (43-08).

Greenwood won the boys’ 800 relay in 1:36.07. Harbaugh, Clay Steff, Carson Davis and Colton Hampton combined for Butler County to win the 1,600 relay (3:43.58), and the Bears’ Harbaugh, Hooten, Steff and Davis also took first in the 3,200 relay (8:47.28).

In the girls’ meet, other area individual winners were Edmonson County’s Mollie Johnson in the 800 (2:35.67), Greenwood’s Sauyer Shirley in the 1,600 (5:55.69), Warren East’s Kendall Meeks in the 3,200 (14:37.38), Logan County’s Cleo Bragard in the 100 hurdles (16.20), Warren East’s Brelynn Wardlow in the high jump (5-04), South Warren’s Karis Carter in the pole vault (8-0), Warren East’s Delilah Martter in the discus (98-10), Russellville’s DeMyiah Allen in the shot put (33-02), and Greenwood’s Kayleight Richards in the shot put adapted (11-05).

Greenwood’s Lily Clark, Nora Strupp, Lily Rodrigue and Maggie Byers combined to win the 1,600 relay (4:29.20).

Campbellsville-Durham Invitational

Barren County’s Addie Roemer claimed a first-place finish in the girls’ high jump at Friday’s Campbellsville-Durham High School Invitational in Campbellsville.

Roemer had a winning jump of 5-0.

Glasgow finished fourth with 78 points and Barren County was fifth with 75 in the 16-team girls’ meet.

Glasgow’s Reid Harper won the adaptive boys’ long jump (24-07). Harper and Ryder Heller teamed up to win the boys’ adaptive 100 relay in 15.06 and boys’ adaptive 400 relay in 58.70.

Glasgow finished eighth with 32 points and Barren County was 10th with 23.5 in the 15-team boys’ meet.
