It won’t be a reunion for Western Kentucky and point guard Mackenzie Chatfield next season.

Chatfield, who entered the NCAA transfer portal shortly after the Lady Tops’ season ended in the Conference USA Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinals, announced her commitment to play at Washington State on her Instagram account Thursday.

A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Chatfield spent two seasons with the Lady Toppers. After playing sparingly as a freshman, Chatfield emerged as a solid contributor for WKU this past season. In 31 games (eight starts), she averaged 5.8 points and 2.4 assists per game. Chatfield added 39 steals and connected on 28-of-80 shots from 3-point range (35%).

Chatfield would be the second portal loss for the Lady Toppers. Rising senior guard Josie Gilvin left WKU for the University of Kentucky earlier this month, with guard Acacia Hayes still in the portal.

The Lady Toppers did get some help for next season’s backcourt Thursday, announcing the signing of Southern Miss transfer point guard Trinity Rowe.

The 2024 Miss Basketball out of Pikeville spent one season at Southern Miss, where she was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year. Rowe made 31 starts and led all Sun Belt Conference freshmen with 221 points, averaging 7.1 points per game. Rowe scored a career-high 25 points against Georgia State last season.

She finished with 82 assists and team-best 57 made 3-pointers, shooting 38% from behind the 3-point arc.
