The local group The Empowerment Team Making A Difference is set to host its second annual veterans resource fair, an event that will see a slew of organizations from around the region set up and provide resources for veterans.

“I love seeing our veterans come in and ask questions,” team member Debbie Harwood told the Daily News. “I just really feel honored when they come in … .’”

This year’s resource fair will take place at the National Guard Armory, 920 Morgantown Road, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.

Harwood said last year, the first time the resource fair happened, around 140 veterans attended the event. She said while there is no “quota” the group is aiming to hit with attendance, she is optimistic for a large crowd.

“We’re really looking forward to having a big crowd again this year,” she said. “… Our goal is to reach any veteran that needs a service or a resource – that could be one or 200.

“We look at each veteran individually,” she said. “We want each veteran to know that we are there for them.”

Included in the roughly 40 vendors attending this year’s fair are Hope Harbor, Kentucky Legal Aid, LifeSkills Inc. and the Bowling Green Police Department, among several others.

Information about regional mental health care will also be provided, as well as food pantries across the area for those in need.

Harwood said services will also be available for those who work with veterans, including care workers and spouses of deceased veterans.

“It’s a diverse population,” she said.

Harwood said she is looking forward to not only meeting veterans, but to following up with those in need and connecting them with resources.

“They sit down, they talk … If they have a need, we follow back up with them,” she said. “So that is what I enjoyed the most about last year, and I’m looking really forward to this year.”
