After losing one in-state product in the transfer portal, the Western Kentucky women’s basketball has added another with rising sophomore Trinity Rowe announcing on social media on Thursday that she is headed to WKU.
“Coming Home,” Rowe said in the post.
The 2024 Miss Basketball out of Pikeville spent one season at Southern Miss, where she was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year. She made 31 starts and led all Sun Belt Conference freshmen with 221 points, averaging 7.1 points per game. Rowe scored a career-high 25 points against Georgia State last season.
She finished with 82 assists and team-best 57 made 3-pointers, shooting 38% from behind the arc.
The 5-foot-5 guard led Pikeville to the KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 her senior season and amassed 2,000 points in her career to become the school’s all-time leader. Rowe was back-to-back Region 15 Most Valuable Player and also finished with more than 1,000 career assists.
Rowe is the first addition from the portal for WKU. Rising senior guard Josie Gilvin left WKU for the University of Kentucky earlier this month, with guards Mackenzie Chatfield and Acacia Hayes still in the portal.
Gilvin appeared in 92 games for the Lady Toppers, making 45 starts, averaging 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds with 82 steals and 78 assists while earning second team All-CUSA honors this past season. Chatfield played in 31 games last year making eight starts – averaging 5.8 points with 74 assists, while Hayes, a three-year starter, averaged 11.3 points last season.
Western Kentucky finished 23-9 last season, but loses four-year starting point guard Alexis Mead and graduate guard Destiny Salary – creating the need for adding another guard on the roster.
