Western Kentucky’s men’s basketball team will feature a reunion between head coach Hank Plona and one of his former players.
Western Illinois transfer guard Ryan Myers announced his commitment to WKU on social media Wednesday night, and a source confirmed to the Daily News that Myers will be joining the program for the 2025-26 season.
Myers played one season for Plona at Indian Hills (Iowa) Community College when Plona was serving as head coach at that school.
A 6-foot-1, 180-pound native of Brooklyn, Myers played two seasons at Western Illinois. This past season as a senior, he finished second on the team in scoring (13.0 points per game) and second in assists (49) and averaged 2.7 rebounds per outing. He connected on 73 of 210 attempts from 3-point range (34.8%) and was 132 of 358 shooting overall (36.9%). Myers tallied a season-high 28 points against Morehead State on Feb. 15.
Myers was named Second Team All-Ohio Valley Conference and Second Team District 18 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches following the 203-24 season with the Leathernecks. He played in 32 games, starting 31, and led Western Illinois in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game. He led the squad in field goals made (135), made -3 pointers (82) and 3-point percentage (40.0%).
In his lone season at Indian Hills, Myers averaged 8.6 points per game.
Before that, Myers started his college career at Iona and played two seasons there. Myers played in 33 games with one start during the 2021-22 season and averaged 5.4 points. He was also named to the 2021-22 MAAC Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team. During the 2020-21 season, Myers appeared in 18 games with three starts as a true freshman and averaged 6.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
Before college, Myers played at Christ the King High School in Middle Village, New York.
Myers becomes the fifth addition to the Hilltoppers via the transfer portal, joining forwards Bryant Selebangue (McNeese State) and Louie Semona (Stonehill), forward/center Noah Boyde (LSU) and guard Cam Haffner (Evansville).
The Hilltoppers also will add incoming freshmen shooting guard Armelo Boone (Woodford County) and forward Lawson Rice (Butler County), who were added during the early signing period.
