A Bowling Green man who admitted guilt in a deadly 2021 shooting on Glen Lily Road was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison.
Eder Exequiel Martinez-Pineda, 34, was sentenced in Warren Circuit Court after previously pleading guilty to charges of first-degree manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence.
Martinez-Pineda was charged initially with murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the death of Gregorio Alberto Jimenez, who was found shot to death on June 3, 2021, in the 700 block of Glen Lily Road.
The Bowling Green Police Department investigated the death after being dispatched to the area when a passer-by reported finding Jimenez’s body.
Detectives located a witness who reported seeing a black SUV drive past his house and then hearing gunshots afterward, according to prior court testimony.
A BGPD officer who recognized Jimenez from a photograph remembered responding to a call involving Jimenez at a home on Collegeview Drive the night before the shooting.
Police believed Jimenez had gone to the house to try to fight someone who lived there, BGPD Detective David Grimsley testified during a 2021 preliminary hearing in Warren District Court.
Officers investigating the shooting went to the Collegeview Drive home and found a black 2015 Chevrolet Suburban parked there that was registered to Jayro Pineda, Martinez-Pineda’s brother.
On June 4, 2021, BGPD received a call from Martinez-Pineda’s ex-wife, who reported that Eder Martinez-Pineda had called her and confessed to having shot Jimenez, police said.
Two days later Martinez-Pineda’s ex-wife came to BGPD headquarters and agreed to make a recorded phone call with Martinez-Pineda.
During the call, Martinez-Pineda admitted giving the gun used in the homicide to his brother, Grimsley testified in 2021, and Martinez-Pineda gave more details in a subsequent phone call to his ex-wife.
“(Martinez-Pineda) approached the victim, who had challenged him to a fight and during the altercation shot (Jimenez) multiple times,” Grimsley said during testimony in 2021.
Martinez-Pineda was arrested in Tompkinsville five days after the shooting.
Jayro Pineda pleaded guilty to a count of tampering with physical evidence and was placed on pretrial diversion.
A third person, Brittany Miller, was charged with first-degree hindering prosecution/apprehension, and has a pretrial conference set for Monday.
