Doyle leads Tops to 10th-place finish at Mountaineer Invite

Western Kentucky’s men’s golf team finished 10th at the Mountaineer Invitational on Tuesday in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

The Tops moved up three spots from Monday’s finish, against a field that included No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 28 Texas Tech, No. 52 TCU, No. 74 Kentucky and No. 95 West Virginia.

Monday’s second round was suspended due to lightning and play resumed Tuesday morning. WKU finished the second round in 11th place and improved its position one more spot during the final round.

Gage Doyle was WKU’s top finisher, moving up the leaderboard 31 spots thanks to a 1-over par 73 during the final round of play.

WKU played the par 3s at 25-over, fourth-best in the field. The Hilltoppers were 38-over on the par 4s, third-best in the field.

The Hilltoppers totaled 144 pars, good for sixth-most in the 18-team field.

The Tops next head to the Conference USA Championships, April 21-24, in Texarkana, Arkansas.
