Warren East’s Kennedy and Madison Lawson will remain teammates on the court, signing to play college basketball at Lindsey Wilson on Monday.
The sisters have been playing basketball and softball together all of their lives, so getting the chance to remain teammates at the collegiate level was something that was too good to pass up.
“I think we wanted to play basketball together at the next level our whole lives,” Madison Lawson said.
The Lawsons said the match with Lindsey Wilson was the perfect fit – a school that they were familiar with after attending multiple basketball camps on the campus.
“It just feels like home,” Kennedy Lawson said. “I think we’ve always wanted to go there.
“It’s so exciting to know what is next.”
There is also a familiarity with the roster. Former teammate RaeEllen Jones just finished her first season at Lindsey Wilson. Former Region 4 rivals Saniyah Shelton, Gracie Borders and Khloe Hale were all part of the roster last season.
“There are a lot of people there we know – a lot of East athletes,” Madison Lawson said.
The Lawsons were an integral part of a Lady Raider team that has enjoyed a return to prominence the last few years. Warren East won 46 games over the past two seasons, advancing to the Region 4 Tournament both years. The Lady Raiders finished 26-5 in 2023-24 to earn the program’s first-ever District 15 Tournament title. Madison Lawson had 16 points with four 3-pointers in the championship win over Allen County-Scottsville.
Last season, Warren East finished 20-8 and secured a return trip to the region tournament.
Kennedy Lawson led the Lady Raiders in scoring, averaging 11.9 points a game with team-best 53 made 3-pointers. Madison Lawson average 11 points with 34 made 3-pointers.
“It’s very special to know the next time we walk into that gym our year is going to be on that banner,” Kennedy Lawson said. “I’m just so glad to be a part of that.”
The Lawson sisters are also part of the Warren East softball team, which is currently 11-3. Madison Lawson is also part of the track team still competing.
The sisters agreed that it’s nice to have college plans locked down so they can enjoy the final month of their senior year at Warren East.
“It’s about over now, so I feel like the last month of high school we have to take it all in,” Madison Lawson said.
