Western Kentucky sophomore Drew Whalen was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league officials Monday afternoon.
Whalen, a native of Franklin, Tennessee, helped lead the No. 25 Tops to a 4-3 win over Liberty to sweep the series on Sunday afternoon at Worthington Field in Lynchburg, Virginia. He registered six strikeouts in six scoreless innings while only giving up two hits and two walks on his way to his seventh win of the season.
The sophomore has made nine starts in 2025 and has posted a 7-1 record – the most wins of any pitcher in CUSA. His 1.94 ERA ranks second in the league behind teammate, Jack Bennett (1.50). The right-hander has 57 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings of work.
This marks the fourth weekly honor, second consecutive and third overall CUSA Pitcher of the Week award of the season for WKU. Bennett was selected earlier this year for his performance against Central Michigan while junior Dawson Hall earned the honor last week after his outing at No. 17 Dallas Baptist.
Whalen and the Hilltoppers conclude a four-game road swing Tuesday with a midweek showdown against No. 17 Louisville at Jim Patterson Stadium in Louisville. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
