Western Kentucky senior Sofia Blanco has been named to the 2025 Conference USA Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team, the conference announced Friday.

It is the third straight year Blanco has been named to the CUSA Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team, and she is the only three time recipient of the honor in program history.

“What a great honor for three years in a row to make the All-Academic Team,” WKU coach Greg Davis said in a news release. “We always stress not just being great on the court, but we like to see that greatness in the classroom as well. Sofia has definitely been successful in both areas since she’s been here.”

Blanco, a business data analytics major, boasts a 3.91 GPA and has received numerous academic accolades throughout her career. The Caracas, Venezuela, native is a four-time CUSA Academic Medal recipient, a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection and a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete.

Blanco is the winningest player in program history, compiling 108 combined career singles and doubles wins as a Lady Topper. She is the only player in program history to reach 100 combined career singles and doubles wins. She ranks second on the program’s career singles wins list with 56, and is also second on the program’s career doubles wins list with 52. She was named a 2024 All-CUSA Singles Second Team member in 2024, and has received a CUSA weekly award four times – CUSA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on April 9, 2025; CUSA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week and CUSA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week on March 5, 2025; and CUSA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on March 13, 2024.

This season, Blanco has gone 14-8 in doubles with teammate Rachel Hermanova and 16-6 in singles, including 15-6 from the No. 2 position. Her 16 singles wins this season are tied for fifth-most in a single season in program history.

As a junior in 2024, Blanco won 18 singles matches, which was tied for second-most in a single season in program history, and in 2022, Blanco and then-teammate Samantha Martinez set the WKU record for single-season doubles wins with 17.

The Lady Toppers wrapped up the regular season this week with a 15-9 overall record – which is tied for the third-most wins in a season in program history – and will now head to Lynchburg, Virginia, for the 2025 Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship. The tournament is scheduled to be played April 16-19 at the Liberty Tennis Complex.
