Lady Toppers claim 7-0 home win against Campbellsville

Western Kentucky’s women’s tennis team returned home and defeated Campbellsville 7-0 on Wednesday at the Warren County Tennis Facility at Michael O. Buchanon Park.

The Lady Toppers improved to 14-9 overall and 11-6 at home with the win over the Tigers (5-8).

“That was a good win and a good bounce-back match for us against Campbellsville today, especially with Senior Day tomorrow and Alabama A&M coming in,” WKU coach Greg Davis said in a news release. “We always talk about momentum and keeping momentum, so that’s our goal. We want to try to get some momentum going into the conference tournament next week when we head back to Liberty.”

WKU improved to 14-9 overall and 11-6 at home with the win. WKU’s 14 wins are tied for the fourth-most in a single season in program history. The Lady Toppers also won 14 matches last season. WKU’s 11 home wins are tied for the second-most in program history. The Lady Toppers won 12 home matches in 2022 and 11 in 2024.

Senior Sofia Blanco now has 106 combined career singles and doubles wins, which is a program record.

Senior Rachel Hermanova now has 90 combined career singles and doubles wins, which is second-most in program history.

Senior Mariana Zegada now has 74 combined career singles and doubles wins, which is third-most in program history.

WKU has won the doubles point in 15 of its 23 matches. The Lady Toppers are 12-3 when winning the doubles point.

Blanco and Hermanova improved to 13-8 together in doubles this season with the win over Campbellsville.

Blanco is second on the program’s career doubles wins list with 51 career doubles wins. She trails only Samantha Martinez, who had 56 career doubles wins from 2020-24.Hermanova now has 29 career doubles wins, which is eighth-most in program history.

Zegada now has 40 career doubles wins, which is third-most in program history.

Hermanova is 12-7 in singles this season, all from the No. 1 position. Her 61 career singles wins are a program record.

Blanco is 15-6 in singles this season, including a 14-6 record from the No. 2 position. Her 55 career singles wins are second-most in program history, and her 15 singles wins this season are tied for fifth-most in a single season in program history.

Zegada is 11-5 in singles this season. She now has 34 career singles wins, which is fifth-most in program history.

Sunskrithi Damera is 11-7 in singles this season. Her 31 career singles wins are tied for eighth-most in program history.

Emily Schut is 14-4 in singles this season. Her 14 wins are tied for ninth-most in a single season in program history.

Elizabeth Sobieski improved to 4-5 in singles this season with her win on Wednesday.

The Lady Toppers will close the regular season with a 2:30 p.m. match against Alabama A&M on Thursday at the Warren County Tennis Facility at Michael O. Buchanon Park. The match will be WKU’s Senior Day. A ceremony recognizing Sofia Blanco, Sunskrithi Damera, Rachel Hermanova and Mariana Zegada will begin at 1 p.m.
