Tops fall 5-1 in series finale to No. 17 DBU

Western Kentucky dropped the Conference USA baseball series finale to No. 17 Dallas Baptist 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at Horner Ballpark in Dallas.
WKU moves to 27-5 overall (6-3 CUSA) on the season and 5-7 all-time against Dallas Baptist.
DBU scored in the first inning on an RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead.
Drew Barragan put the Tops on the board in the fifth with an RBI groundout.
A WKU passed ball allowed a run to score in the sixth to give the Patriots a 3-1 advantage.
Two insurance runs scored in the eighth for Dallas Baptist with a two-run home run.
WKU’s Drew Whalen made his eighth start of the year on the mound. In three innings, the sophomore went without a strikeout while allowing two runs on two hits and two walks.
Taylor Penn, Treyson Peters and Evan Jones saw action out of the bullpen. Penn surrendered one unearned run on three hits in three innings with a couple of strikeouts. Jones tossed a scoreless inning and collected one strikeout.
WKU scored one run on six hits and nine walks with one RBI.
Carlos Vasquez had the only multi-hit outing in a 2-for-4 day for the Hilltoppers. Barragan had the lone RBI in a 1-for-3 outing.
WKU will return home for a midweek contest with Southern Indiana on Tuesday. First pitch from Nick Denes Field is set for 5 p.m.
