Guthrie ignoring constituents

I am a member of SOKY Indivisible, a local group that promotes democracy. We have questions about the current happenings in Washington, DC, so our members asked Rep. Brett Guthrie to hold a town hall so that we could get some answers.

Numerous requests were made through phone calls, letters, and Mr. Guthrie’s online forms. The requests were completely ignored so we contacted his office to say that we would hold a town hall without him. Just before the event his office issued a response. No mention was made of the town hall, but he stated that District 2 overwhelmingly voted for Donald Trump and his America First Agenda, and that he fully intends to support it.

Trump ran on the slogans, ”America First” and “Trump will fix it” and he promised to fix the economy and protect Social Security. But he pulled the old bait and switch, and his administration is either proposing or currently enacting policies that NOBODY voted for, such as:

Cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

Elon Musk gaining access to our most sensitive personal information.

Eliminating the Department of Education, which helps fund schools in poverty-stricken areas.

Alienating our closest allies and threatening to take over Canada, Greenland and Panama.

Cuts to our National Parks, including Mammoth Cave, a Kentucky jewel that draws visitors from all over the world.

Cuts to the CDC and the NIH, organizations that protect the public’s health and fund medical research.

Mr. Guthrie’s response is an offensive dismissal of his constituents and their very legitimate concerns. Further, his response reveals that he will support Trump’s policies, even though the America First Agenda has morphed into something the voters never expected, something that may well harm Kentuckians and all Americans.
