WKU wraps up action at Tennessee Invite, Joe Walker Invitational

Western Kentucky’s track and field teams wrapped up action at the Tennessee Invitational and Joe Walker Invitational on Saturday.
At the Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville, Tennessee, WKU’s Kaison Barton started the day off with a pair of top-five finishes in the shot put and hammer throw. Jayla Gilbert added a fifth-place finish in the women’s shot put.
Freshman JonJon Hunter had a career day, notching a new personal best in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 15.08 meters. The Bowling Green native was the only Hilltopper to claim a victory.
Day two on the track proved to be successful for WKU. Van Thrasher kicked things off with a personal record in the 110-meter hurdles preliminary round with a mark of 14.29 seconds. He would end up with a sixth-place finish in the final event.
In the men’s 100, Kameron Horton claimed a seventh-place mark, clocking in at 10.27. Brunel Desinor added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash. To round out the sprinting events, the men’s 4×100 meter relay team clocked a 40.36 finish which is a season best and nationally ranked.
In the mid-distance ranks, Addie Frisch managed a season best time in the 800 with a 2:20 mark, good for 14th place. Trevor Hudnall led the men’s team with a sixth-place finish in the 800. Hollis Johnson had yet another career day with a new PR in the event, clocking in at 1:55.
In Oxford, Mississippi, Joey Raybourne rounded out his decathlon, finishing in the top-15 in all five events highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 1,500 where he clocked in at 4:43. He claimed a 12th-place finish, garnering 5,474 points.
WKU will travel to Little Rock, Arkansas, for the Little Rock Invitational on April 11-12.
