Industrial expansion in the region continued last week as the energy storage solutions manufacturer Shinsung ST USA announced a new $53.5 million facility in the Henderson Interstate Industrial Park in Franklin.

A subsidiary of the South Korea-based Shinsung Delta Tech, the announcement marks the company’s first operation in the United States, something Franklin Mayor Larry Dixon stated in a release is a “testament to our city’s business-friendly environment and skilled workforce.”

“This state-of-the-art facility in the Henderson Interstate Industrial Park will not only provide substantial economic growth but also enhance Franklin’s reputation as a leader in advanced manufacturing,” Dixon stated in the release. “We are thrilled to welcome Shinsung ST USA and look forward to a long and prosperous partnership.”

Once open, the 300,000 square foot facility will create 100 new jobs and, over the next ten years, is expected to generate over $200 million in sales revenue.

Jim DeCesare, head of the Franklin-Simpson Industrial Authority, told the Daily News that the company is moving into an existing facility in the industrial park. He said once the facility is fully operational, average pay will be $30 per hour, and he spoke on the benefits the investment will have for Simpson County.

“It’s going to be 100 new jobs, which … means that money is going to be spent locally, but they’re also going to be hiring other suppliers and vendors as needed for various roles,” he said. “Obviously, it increases the tax base for the county and the city.

“Overall, it’s just a good project that’s kind of in our wheelhouse,” he said, adding that the area is “within a day’s drive of 75, 80% of the U.S. population.”

Shinsung manufactures heatsinks, which are a form of heat exchanger that disperses heat generated by electronic components.

DeCesare said for example, if someone has an electric vehicle, heatsinks are used in the charging equipment to disperse electrical heat and prevent fires.

“It’s very exciting that they chose Simpson County for the first location in the United States,” he said. “It just goes to show that there’s a lot of economic activity going on right now.”
