The city school district’s facilities roadmap for the next four years obtained final board approval Monday.
The Bowling Green Independent School District Board of Education held its 30-minute public hearing for the District Facilities Plan prior to the day’s special session vote. BGISD’s Local Planning Committee for the DFP advertised the hearing at least 14 days beforehand; no one commented.
The district has made no changes since the first board vote earlier this month, according to Greg Hosfield, project manager at RossTarant, the firm that has facilitated the DFP process for the district.
The DFP calls for scheduling a new W.R. McNeill Elementary and new Potter Gray Elementary, each with a storm shelter, after 2028.
Top-priority changes – to be scheduled between 2026 and 2028 – are major renovation and additions at Bowling Green Junior High along with security upgrades at BGJHS and three other schools.
There are lower priorities as well that either will be scheduled after 2028 or don’t need scheduling.
Hosfield said the Kentucky Department of Education’s DFP reviews have been pretty thorough and without surprises. He added that every KDE comment has been accepted and responded to, and the state department has seen the final version – so he feels pretty good about the chances this DFP will go straight through without bouncing back.
