Newman helps Purples roll past Cougars 9-0

Bowling Green senior Grayson Newman went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs to pace host Bowling Green to a 9-0 baseball win against Logan County on Monday.

Drew Isenberg added a 2-for-3 day with three runs scored for the Purples. Hudson Nottmeier was drove in three runs, Logan Johnson tallied a pair of RBIs, Landon Gilbert had a double and an RBI, and Harrison Yates added an RBI in the win.

Four BG pitchers combined on the six-hit shutout. Grayson Rodgers started and earned the win after firing four scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Alex Johnson, Chris Cohron and Trey Duff pitched one scoreless inning of relief each.

Bowling Green (3-1) hosts Daviess County on Thursday.

TySean Thomeczek tallied a pair of hits for Logan County (2-3), which was set to visit Allen County-Scottsville on Tuesday.

South Warren 10, Franklin-Simpson 4

Ethan Reynolds hit a double and drove in four runs to spark visiting South Warren to a 10-4 win against Franklin-Simpson on Monday.

John Mosley was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, Griffin Rardin tallied a double and an RBI, and Camden Page also drove in a run for the Spartans.

Mikey Coradini started on the mound and fired four scoreless innings to earn the win. He struck out seven.

South Warren (5-0) was set to visit Barren County on Thursday.

Brady Delk tallied a double and two RBIs and Hendrik Blanckenberg also drove in a run for Franklin-Simpson (3-2), which was slated to visit Greenwood on Tuesday.

Butler County 13, Caverna 0

Duncan Tyree went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to lead host Butler County to a 13-0 win in five innings against Caverna on Monday.

Will Amos added two RBIs, and Eli Oaks added a double and an RBI for the Bears.

Garrett Phelps got the start and earned the win with two scoreless innings, striking out five. Justin Castlen fanned seven over 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Butler County (2-3) was set to host Todd County Central on Tuesday.

Glasgow 6, Metcalfe County 4

Josiah Driver went 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases and an RBI to spark visiting Glasgow to a 6-4 win against Metcalfe County on Monday.

Steven Garrett was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Garett Shields and Evan Templin drove in two runs each for the Scotties.

Peyton Lemily earned the win after pitched three scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts.

Glasgow (1-4) was set to visit Green County on Tuesday.

Edmonson County 12, Trinity (Whitesville) 1

Hunter Wilson went 2-for-3 with a home run and six RBIs to lead homestanding Edmonson County to a 12-1 win in five innings against District 12 rival Trinity (Whitesville) on Monday.

Eli Meredith was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI, and Drew Pierce went 2-for-3 with a double for the Wildcats. Jack Lich, Garrett Lyons and Logan Key each drove in a run.

Wilson pitched all five innings for the win, allowing just one unearned run off one hit and three walks while fanning 12.

Edmonson County (2-2 overall, 1-0 district) was scheduled to visit Trinity (Whitesville) on Tuesday.

Softball

Butler County 16, Breckinridge County 1

Carley Cardwell went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to pace host Butler County to a 16-1 win in three innings against Breckinridge County on Monday.

Callyn Smith went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Karrington Hunt was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, Miley Franzell went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, Taylor Smith tallied a double and two RBIs, Jenna Tomes also drove in two runs, and Emmalin Mode produced a double and and RBI for the Lady Bears.

Franzell earned the win after pitching all three innings, allowing just an unearned run off one hit and no walks while striking out two.

Butler County (1-3) was scheduled to visit Warren East on Tuesday.

ACS 10, Cumberland County 0

Kensley Byrn went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lift host Allen County-Scottsville to a 10-0 win in five innings against Cumberland County on Monday.

Jacie Rice was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Ally Anderson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Aubrey Williams was 2-for-3 with a double for the Lady Patriots. Payton Hopkins added a double and Addison Law had an RBI.

Brooklyn Oliver pitched all five innings for the win, allowing no runs off just one hit and no walks while fanning six.

ACS (4-0) was slated to host Bowling Green on Tuesday.

Franklin-Simpson 4, Edmonson County 1

Kloie Smith homered, drove in two runs and stole a pair of bases to spark host Franklin-Simpson to a 4-1 win against Edmonson County on Monday.

Ava Holland added an RBI for the Lady Wildcats.

Presli West started and earned the win with four shutout innings, allowing no hits and two walks while striking out five. Rebecca Luttrell finished up with three hitless innings, allowing just an unearned run while fanning five.

Franklin-Simpson (5-1) was scheduled to visit District 13 rival Russellville on Tuesday.

Julie Norris pitched all six innings in the loss for the Lady Cats, allowing three earned runs while striking out 12. Lillie Webb had the lone RBI for Edmonson County (3-2), which hosts Warren East on Thursday.

Rossview 5, Logan County 4

Homestanding Logan County dropped a 5-4 decision to Rossview (Tennessee) on Monday.

Brenley Adler went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and an RBI to lead the Lady Cougars in the loss. Addison Holloway was 2-for-3, Haley Henson tallied two RBIs, Caris Taylor had a double and Madelyn Burgess also drove in a run.

Addison Cartas pitched all seven innings in the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) while striking out 13.

Logan County (1-3) was set to host District 13 foe Todd County Central on Tuesday.

Track and Field

Oldham County Kick-Off Classic

Greenwood’s Claire Ellington claimed an individual victory in the girls’ 1,600-meter run at the Oldham County Kick-Off Classic on Saturday.

Ellington posted a winning time of 5 minutes, 24.42 seconds. Ellington also won the girls’ 3,200 with a time of 12:00.30.

Greenwood’s girls’ finished tied for fifth in the 16-team field. The Gators took 10th in the boys’ meet.

The Gators were set to host the Greenwood All Comers meet on Tuesday.

Muhlenberg County Invitational

Logan County picked up a pair of wins at Saturday’s Muhlenberg County Invitational.

Cleo Bragard won the girls’ 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.75 seconds.

The Lady Cougars’ 400-meter relay also claimed a first-place finish after combining to post a time of 54.0 seconds.

Logan County was slated to compete in the Greenwood All Comers meet on Tuesday.
